The Winter Holidays can always be a difficult time, especially if you are already inclined to indulge a little too much. Boxes of chocolates, glistening deserts and generous dinners with hearty seconds and maybe even thirds. As a tub of Quality Street chocolates is passed around, it is hard to say no to just one more. After a while, the days all seem to blend into each other - a heady swim of breakfasts, lunches, suppers and sweets, all washed down with lashings of leftovers.
No wonder everything in the wardrobe seems to feel a little tight as the New Year is rung in. That gigantic, glorious belly-bulge stretches the straining fabric of those leopard-print briefs to absolute bursting point, stuffing them until they are almost completely crease free. There is an occasinal creak and the pop of a lone stitch as she inelegantly lumbers her huge weight onto the heavy-duty weighing scales. Those wide, momentum inducing saddle bags and soft, bulging inner-thighs make steady movement harder than ever before.
As the sloshing of soft flesh calms and she stands patiently catching her breath, the scales slowly come to life. They deliberate for quite some time. Then, rather unapologetically, they reveal the result of their sums. She knew it: she has gained again. A record amount, too. What is happening to her?
Shocked, dejected, confused, she slowly heaves her way back to the couch, briefly stopping by the kitchen to grab an arm-full of snacks, treats and leftovers to try and console herself. After all, what's another 50 pounds when you're already this fat?
