Isometric Module Update 0.10.291.1: Pro & Basic Enhancements + Comprehensive Tutorial Video

Both the Pro and Basic versions have received enhancements, and your support has been crucial in making these improvements happen. Here's a breakdown of what's new, with technical details for our developer-savvy subscribers:

Pro Version Updates:

  • Added module settings options to enable or disable Pro features in the Isometric Module, providing flexibility for performance optimization or addressing bugs.

Pixel Perfect Tile Selector:

This feature allows selecting isometric tiles based on their non-transparent pixels, ignoring their bounding box.

  • Utilizes an optimized shader-based method, leveraging the gl object selection technique.
  • Changes:Resolved issues when switching scenes.
    Enhanced caching efficiency for the shader.

TokenOccluder:

This feature provides automatic detection and occlusion of tokens by isometric tiles when tokens move "behind" them.

Basic Version Updates:

General:

  • Resolved an issue with the Windows version of the Isometric Module, where it detected changes in hooked core Foundry due to '\r\n' shenanigans.

Canvas:

  • Introduced "Dungeon Builder" projection options for Dungeon Builder exports.
  • Added an option to draw the grid below isometric tiles, preserving the isometric "illusion" and preventing the grid from interfering with the isometric tiles' appearance.

Sight:

  • Improved wall positioning detection relative to tokens in the Isometric Module, used for hiding or showing tiles based on their location.
  • When global light is enabled, vision range will be ignored, making it suitable for PFE2 and Lancer systems.
  • Added an option to set isometric tiles attached to walls as occluders for the Token Occlusion feature from the Pro version.

Tokens:

  • Addressed elevation issues in the Isometric Module, now accurately adjusting elevated tokens based on grid sizes determined by the game system (e.g., in 5e, 5ft = 1 grid).
  • Introduced an option to disable the token elevation effect.

small update: Work started on V10

There are many changes that need to be made to add support, so I took the opportunity to do a total re-write of the module, this will be easier to maintain in the future.

Not a lot to show as of right now, but we have the basics working, iso grid, dropping tokens, and the rest of the basic foundry features such as measurements, and lightning.

Some nice to haves added are the animated tool tips, and wiki links (and translation support for all the options).

Added Features to the Isometric Module

Heya!

I wanted to update you on some features added to the module due to some feedback,

First, a patch by gregdwilson has been added as a toggle option on the scene config which fixes the position, no more insane offsets:


This will be the default for new scenes when Foundry 0.8 is released, and the toggle will be removed:


An added benefit of this is FXMaster and Token Magic FX now work:


Another important QoL additions are the Pixel Perfect Selector for tiles:

The Difference is really noticeable:


A new tool to automatically surround tiles with walls

for now either regular or terrain, future versions will also work for scenes backgrounds(you can do it manually by dropping a scene tile for now), more wall types will be added and grouping, selecting multiple tile will surround all of them as a group, useful for people using terrain walls to build scenes (instead of using the tile attacher ahm.. ahm... you know who you are)


Distance Culling and Light Culling

The new algorithm for detecting whether the token is seeing the tile or not now takes into account it's sight radius, if a tile is outside the token's radius or a light radius it won't be seen. (determined if a ray sight is able to hit the attached wall).

FoundryVTT Isometric module - Map Collaboration

I am very happy to show you this new collaboration with Galaxy Compass who creates amazing art for use in VTTs.

This module will include this map and all future collaboration so that you can use those in your campaign. Thanks to Galaxy Compass you will have a hand painted complex hanging on the cliffs of a mountain. Dev Blog Updates #1

So as the month coming to it's end, I took a small break to review everything I've been working on this month.

Let's have a look at the current project:

FG_Converter - Oh wow, so many changes to list, but here are some:

  • Updated to Foundry 0.7.7 and DnD5e v1.1.1 system which means no longer waiting for the world to load for the first time after conversion.
  •  Added Support for FGU
  •  We now have really cool icons for each item converted, since FG is a bit weak on the eye candy, and foundry just introduced around 4k item icons, I added a feature that uses some fuzzy name matching algorithm to add an icon for each item/spell converted as part of a world conversion.


  • Added loot parcels - each loot parcel will now be represented by an actor that has the loot parcels item in it's inventory, including currency. (and the special loot actor for pf2e )


  • Added initial support for SWADE's and CoC's characters, npcs, and items.


  • QoL - added a toggle for disabling the upscaler
  • QoL - added links in reference manuals, character and npc backgrounds, and general art


  • and many bug fixes as usual

Isometric Module

  • The Major change was adding support to foundry 0.7.x which introduced drastic changes to the light and vision system. 
  • Added a change to keyboard keys orientation to move in isometric directions
  • Work with more than a handful of foundry module devs to add support for their modules to work with the isometric module
  • Added option transparency when standing above the tiles instead of hiding them completely


  • Worked on adding a special shader to show how token are represented when behind "hooked" assets (but still needs work to be released for general use)


Minimap 

  • Added support for foundry 0.7.x as it broke the module
  • Added auto fog updates for player maps when they move
  • Added support for video backgrounds
  • Bug fixes


HeroLabsOnline Import

Added initial support for importing, it works, now we need to map the objects between HLO and foundry and the module will be ready for release


Material (Manual) Dice 

  • Labeled over 15k images manually, call me crazy but that was therapeutic.
  • Trained the model for over 150 hours, it is showing really good results so far, over 85% accuracy


  • Created a server that runs the model, build a small webapp that takes pictures, and basically closed the loop from foundry to the server to the phone camera.
  • More on that later :)

Secret Projects

Well, if you read to here, you deserve to know that there are some collaborations I've been working on with some artists, to bring something back to all our supporters, should drop any day now

I might have forgotten a feature or 2 in the update, but I feel that moving forward updates will be added more frequently so I won't forget them and for all of you to have an easier way to see progress rather than reading it up on the discord.

Isometric Module - shaders are cool

I think i nailed down the best way to represent a token partially visible behind an isometric tile, using shaders.

But don't worry if that doesn't look cool enough, it'll be configurable with some other options, such as color outlines for enemy/ally, predator mode, negative, and whatever crazy idea you come up with in the comments or the discord.
