You're right, the moment with the door is a reference to the Shining, now you understand the design and the "creep" side of Alessi, a perfect Jack Nicholson vibe ^^. And for the lady, she didn't actually kidnap Polnareff, she just wanted to heal him before probably taking him back to his parents, but since he was bleeding and covered in dust, it was healthier to wash him before. In the US and in Europe it may seem weird, but maybe less on that side of the globe, especially in what seems like a small town or village.
