Gamer Night - Chapter 69

here's Chapter 69 of Gamer Night. It starts with a certain timeskip that allows us to move the story along.
After this I'm going to pull up a poll to ask whether you want me to focus on the continuation of the story, or delve into the events that happened previously (loads of smut).
In the meantime, enjoy.
Unfortunately, this is all I have to show for this month. I'll try to do better next month.

There is a reason why I skipped most of that stuff here. I want to create the big happy family, in a way. But at the same it's a story about a guy who gets too irresistible for his own good. I have now created a situation in which I can throw him into a bunch of sexy shenanigans as a Succubus' Agent, while keeping it separated from the main story. And in any event, it won't be just smut, per se. The people whom Shirou sleeps with were "sexually impaired" due to some life circumstances. He fixed their problems and fuck them senseless. A bit of a side effect is that those who have become "more liberated than others" want a piece of him again.

2021-10-28 12:59:31 +0000 UTCDon't want to beat a dead horse, but I went back through my comments on previous chapters, and this one, from his femdom scene with Ryouko, had me wincing: "And, again, the hopeful end point here is everyone (including, of course, Tearju) getting along in a big happy fucking family rather than some of them just being side chicks or, as you put it, 'notches on his belt.' I sometimes have mixed feelings about the slow pace of this story, but as Ryouko pointed out this chapter, he could have a huge harem of addicted sex slaves if he wanted. He doesn't because he instead wants sex to be something Shirou does in intimate relationships with people he loves, and that makes everyone involved happy. So, if I gotta be patient for the various long-telegraphed subplots to begin bearing fruit, so be it." 'Cause, well... almost all of that's no longer true, is it? It was something I liked about the story, and for better or worse it's gone now, and I don't know if it's fair of me to be unhappy about that or if I'm just knee-jerk criticizing it for being different, but it's how I feel and I don't think I can help how I feel.

2021-10-28 12:41:51 +0000 UTC...Alright, fine, I didn't completely finish the chapter before typing this, and you did at least discuss *some* of my thoughts at the end, though they were still alienating in the body of the chapter itself when it took a while to actually address the dramatically-changed status quo for both the character of Shirou and his world and lifestyle. I'm doubly not crazy about Shirou having a bunch of nameless faceless conquests to whom he feels no emotional attachment and for whom he's absolutely ruined all other men; I realize that part of the point of the story is that he's turning into something far removed from the normal human experience but it *does* make him less relatable and harder to root for. But at least he's not being smug about it. Also, the spoiler-y thing at the end I guess I don't want to ruin for anyone who hasn't read the chapter yet. I'm not sure where I remember reading you say something about it before, but... I did know in advance, and I do appreciate its presence here. I'm not sure how it'll wash out in the end, given the way it went in canon. Finally, I was worried the Onigashima girls would just gunk up the works with *other* nameless faceless characters I have no emotional connection to, so I was glad most of them went their separate ways, but I don't know who Mikoto is and could use a link.

I liked the chapter overall, and while I'm about to complain we could've used at least two and a half more, I appreciated almost all the concepts explored, and that they represent good pacing. I liked the "soft cap," that we're finally going to start closing the loop on the Scathach story arc, that Shirou capped out his Wisdom and promptly suffered semi-realistic consequences for it, and that before he left we got some good times and light comedy with his two main squeezes. *That said*... I feel like we're missing out on more than just "loads of smut" by skipping over all the missions the succubi made him do in the interim. Shirou going from being mildly uncomfortable with having sex for purely mercenary reasons to tomcatting around with every single-mom and hot older sister in his neighborhood, for reasons he could not control, is a pretty harsh character shift, after all. (And that's assuming they *were* just single ladies; I realize the story says they wanted it but you can want something in the moment and still regret the consequences of a moment's impulsiveness later, which *further* feels like something Shirou'd feel at least some angst about.) I don't think we necessarily need "loads of smut," but if I were going to organize filled-in blanks, I'd just do two and a half. One where Lilith and Morrigan give him marching orders while grinding and taunt/tease him when he hesitates, one where he hardens his resolve and does it, with them popping in at the end to grind his nose in the fact that it's just the first of many, and a half-chapter where we skip over a lot of them in shortening one-paragraph to one-sentence descriptions, emphasizing how desensitized he's getting to all this sex and how numb he's feeling to the regrets he used to have about it. Anyway. I guess I'm not sure if I'd prefer to vote for continuing the story or filling in the blanks if it's a question of pacing vs. a lot of *detailed* sex stuff. I do wish we'd gotten a continuation of that one contest-winning story where one of the track girls had sex with him and then ran away hating herself, if only so she could get closure and accept what she'd done.
