"Ugh, I go three years without catching it and now I've got the damn thing" I grunted, wincing at the pain in my throat and the throbbing of my head as I settled down into my recliner to wait for the meds to kick in. I had just taken a Mucinex and a full cup of cough medicine, and my plan was to be unconscious for most of this stupid illness. Three years. I went three whole years without catching Covid and then the stupid old lady at work who KNEW better than to come in gets it everywhere, all because she 'didn't think running a low fever was enough to call off work for'. And of course she had to be some Red Hat wearing, vaccine denier who only put on a mask during the Pandemic because HR more or less told her to wear one or resign. And here we are, on the down-swing of it, and I'm just starting to feel safe enough to take off MY mask...And she comes in and proceeds to get it EVERYWHERE. God, old people were the freaking worst.
"At least it's the weeke-HACK" I tried to say before another round of coughing hit me. When I was finished I leaned back in the recliner and tried desperately to fall asleep. That, of course, failed, and instead I was stuck with the suffering that was consciousness. "God, I wish I had a regular cold instead of this!" I muttered, shutting my eyes in the continued hope that sleep would come. Or at least like a zen mode or something becuase UGH.
"Oh hey boss! Wish granted!" Came a giggling little voice from behind me, followed by a tiny snap. My eyes snapped open, and then rolled as I watched my den change from the cozy pseudo-man cave into a bright, modern style bedroom. And of course, I was now in my curvy, short, blonde female form. I could easily undo this with my editor powers and I raised my hand to do so...But I took a breath and realized that it didn't hurt to breathe anymore! I was still sick, and a woman, but this felt like a normal sinus thing! I could ride it out and change back when I was better!
Man, I loved that Quarantine Fairy! She was great! I'd have to do something special for her when I restored reality to normal!
