Mama Wong's Version 3

We are getting close to a final set design for Mama Wong's. Erik (Production Designer) has sent along a third pass after a really good discussion with the team, including both stunts and camera.

Above is a little fly-through of the current set.

The main changes are as follows:

Staircase - it's now in the dining room. It was taking too much room being a separate staircase outside of the set. Now we have another architectural element in the restaurant. It will also provide more possibilities for staging. And finally, it gives us more room. And we are trying to maximize every square inch of our warehouse.

Upstairs room - We hadn't gotten a blueprint yet of upstairs, but here it is. Also, we moved it to be over the kitchen. This is because the kitchen can already have a lower roof, and we can open up the dining room more. Also, the staircase is better coming down towards the door.

Having Jimmy's room upstairs is still a big question mark budget-wise, and with regards to safety/building codes. But we think it would be a huge benefit to the film. The bedroom will have a much more interesting look if we build it in our rafters than if we have to redress some room or office we already have. Plus, it allows us to connect the spaces.

Removed storage: For the sake of maximizing the size of the set, we removed about 5 feet of storage space we originally had on the east wall of the set. So now it is just the fire lane and space for the flats/set supports. This allowed us to add about 2 feet to the kitchen and 3 feet to the dining room.

Kitchen: As stated above, we added some space. Also, made it square instead of the back wall angling with our warehouse wall. Also, added more of a wall separating the kitchen from the dining room. So it's not open, but still has a large service window for you know, food orders to go out. But more importantly for people to fly through in a fight scene.

Also added a door to the kitchen. Again, should just make the space more interesting both for action and blocking.

Foyer: Just swapped around the doors and windows so the doorway opens to our loading dock.
