A very technical teardown of a 3D priter

Earlier this year I visited Formlabs HQ. I used to work there and spent countless hours developing SLA 3D printers. During my visit they offered to let me tear down their latest printer the Form 4. I was really keen on this because I wasn't involved in developing it, so I was really curious what was going on under the hood.

What followed was me, possibly irreparably, tearing a brand new machine apart while the lead engineer (Alec Rudd) watched. It was actually awesome having Alec there because, like a good tech lead, he knows everything about everything. As a result we had a lot of good discussions getting deep into the technical weeds.

I think this level of publicly "peeking behind the curtain" is unusual so I hope you enjoy it. I certainly had a lot of fun doing it!

As always thank you for your support! I also have a new project video coming soon too! More on that later...

I'm only a little into it so far but this is amazing. Nobody realizes how much thought and effort goes into the small things...
