2025-08-06 15:14:00 +0000 UTC1:59:00 because thats how we feel the separation between us and the outside world the angels and evas can just expand that field and use it as a weapon also makes sense why asuka thiks its coming from her mother then because thats the first other person we encounter and thus where we first perceive a separation between us and another

2025-08-04 05:41:04 +0000 UTCI've seen 2 hour video essay about the reasons behind Shinji jerking off to Asuka, ngl it was hilarious - I like to compare 1~17 angels to a magnetised ferromagnetic with all the magnetic moments aligned while the humanity is so chaotic they literally cannot evolve further (because individual AT fields negate each other on the global scale - fixed in EoE) - This makes Eva just a quirky AT field amplifier, powered by a protector (aka "resident soul") and controlled by a pilot - Asuka's mother soul was sucked into Eva, leaving her a mindless empty shell (and later she seppuku'd) She might have done it on purpose just like Yui, but we can't neither confirm nor deny it - For Suzuhara it was not his mother, it was his sister; we can also speculate if she was given a choice or just shoved into an empty Eva - Dummy system for Eva Series is made of Kaworu clones (you can see it written on the entry plug before it's inserted) - Somehow this also explains Eva Series not having an AT field Technically they should be godlike like Eva 01 as they have both Seed of Knowledge and Seed of Life in them - maybe it's because they're missing a mind or a soul or whatever - Asuka is bleeding because when synchrorate exceeds 100% not just the pain, but also the damage is translated to the pilot Not going berserk in the last second would have saved Asuka (because sync would be deactivated), but she was too busy hating Eva Series - Longinus spears are just MacGuffins, we can overanalyze it deeper to connect them to Gaius Cassius Longinus and even assume he actually is Keel Lorenz (the head of Seele), but would it even affect the whole plot? Though I like this kind of motivation (god cursed him with eternal life till the end of days and he hastened the latest). I 100% agree they've lost all the meta plot in attempt to make sense of the core mechanics Morale of the story is "do not let the psychotic kid become a god", I guess... Most of EoE retcons were retconed back in Rebuilds, can't say I dislike it ((Had to stop at 01:30:00, sorry it you figured some of it on your own and I'm just repeating stuff; will proceed with walls of text tomorrow morning :) ))

2025-06-15 02:12:22 +0000 UTCThanks :) I do have the feeling that there is some „agreed on“ interpretation that is based on inferences and not actual depictions in the show. For example, Gendo is never in the show depicted as hateful, spiteful or anything. He is „just“ one of those jardline fathers, but the gendo=asshole interpretation is in my opinion highly contradicted by 1. graveyard 2. the penultimate scene literally is shinji thanking a smiling gendo together with yui. The line from ritsuko does not mean it is all mothers. It is equally possible they are all yui copies (the reis and plugs) meshed with lilith dna. 00 goong berserk was not directed and gendo, at best I can agree that might have been a hidden reason. The fact that they all were made feom mothers was added in eoe, it is not stated in nge. Again, you could infer that, but it is a bit constructed. Same for my interpretation as well. So while I do not agree with these takes on nge, I see why you would retroacricely be able to interpret into the show with some bending (though gendo stuff is really something I do not get). I have read some comments in the premieres and my impression is that people have created their own agreed on interpretation and take all media they can to make it fit, which is cool. But based on the info of the show, none of these are facts, just inferences. So I am habing a hard time talking about it when people give me „facts“ that are not facts but interpretations of scenes. :)

2025-06-12 04:34:14 +0000 UTCI strongly suspected that you would be very disappointed with this film, I nearly suggested you not watch it, but I figured it was not my place to say. As I watched your reactions to the series I was frequently confused by some of your analysis, I didn't understand where some of the ideas were it was coming from. I assumed, at first, that it was an outgrowth of your education, I only have a high school diploma myself and a year of college, but I eventually realized you were writing a fan fiction, stacking you interpretations and flowering from those into further deviations from what was presented. It was very interesting. As an example, the Gendo Ikari you created does not exist in the narrative of the series, he is a complete bastard, there are clear indications that he is planning something against the wishes of his bosses in Seele, his praise of Shinji seems very performative. In episode 24 Ritsuko says, "Yes, they're human. The Evas do not intrinsically have souls, but they have human souls embedded in them. They were all salvaged. The only vessel that contained a soul was Rei. She was the only one born with a soul." Each Eva needed a soul to function, Unit 01 has Yui, Unit 02 had Asuka's mother, Unit 00 has Ritsuko's mom, that's why it went berserk and tried to kill Gendo during the test. I loved this film, it tied up so many lose ends and brought the story to completion, I assumed episodes 25 and 26 took place while the merger were still in place. I understood before I saw it that there was an element of spite against angry Japanese fans worked into the film. I think it's perfectly alright not to care for this film or even to hate it, there's room enough in the world for all kinds of ideas and you are wonderfully creative. Maybe you could use this inspiration to write a story someday fulfilling the themes you saw. Be well.

2025-06-12 00:23:22 +0000 UTCAlso I'm not sure if I'm wrong about this or not, but Gendo could have been "guiding" Shinji throughout the show to make him reach this ultimate version of humanity, this ideal image which you mentioned in the final few episodes. Lastly, something that was very important was that he was very synced with his soul "mother" and body "eva" compared to any other pilot, so he was the best candidate to converge with Lilith. In order to orchestrate instrumentality, Shinji and unit 01 were needed in either version. Gendo had allowed for Shinji to properly develop to be ideal of instrumentality. The only time I saw genuine affection was when he mentioned Shinji shortly after the second impact. After Yui's death, I believe he withdrew from all his connections with avoidance, and become obsessed with having an instrumentality his own way to bring Yui back, even if it meant disregarding his son. Still, I don't even really believe myself as I was partially digging for scraps here, and it did seem like there were times of care for Shinji. At the same time, it always seemed like he valued Rei much more due to his desperate longing for his wife and her importance in his instrumentality.

2025-06-11 23:56:49 +0000 UTCI"m loving the video so far, and I want to add something in regards to the hospital scene. It may not be perfectly executed, but there is reasoning behind it. Throughout the show, there were many instances of Shinji exploring intimacy and his sexuality, such as when it may cut to Misato's personality from his view, his interactions with Asuka (kiss, her "sleep walking", ect), and how he generally allows people into his life. After the death of Kaworu, he began hating himself even more than the start of the show (it didn't seem that way in ep. 24 but whatever), and he was completely alone again other than Misato (he was afraid of interacting with Rei still). His desperate attempts to call out to Asuka did show growth in that he felt more confident in relying on others, a major issue he struggled with before through avoidant isolation, and made that move through his growth, even though he was struggling with the fact he killed the first person to accept him unconditionally and show that. Then the gown slipped, and he was shown Asuka in the most vulnerable, intimate state that one can only reach through genuine connection, and presented with unconditional "connection" in a very twisted sense. In a moment of desperation, he did it to feel something, to feel like he had that sacred connection, but it only left him empty and self loathing. It was an impulsive action in an attempt to fuel his desire for connection, intimacy, and acceptance. As a teenager myself, this was very believable, even though I don't want to admit it, and exploring sexuality, especially when dealing with avoidant personality-like symptoms, is incredibly challenging. Oftentimes, the idea itself feels shameful in every way and there is a fear that nobody will accept you anyways, so you avoid situations and people were intimacy and vulnerability might be found. As repression does though, human desires seep out in different ways, often more harmfully and impulsively whether it be through online video addiction, isolation, or whatever that may look like. Henceforth, more shame is created, and it becomes a cycle of self hatred. This scene was actually quite impactful for me, as it made me think back to times I struggled with navigating intimacy and the extreme shame I had felt around it as an early adolescence. Although Shinji at this point in the show was much more mature (almost perfect in a thematic sense), he is still human. He did react much better than he did when he nearly killed his prior friend (I forgot his name) even though the circumstances were arguably worse in every way. Still, he is not cured of his old tendencies of avoidance, self loathing, escapism, and his general mental set, so he chose to blame himself for everything as he couldn't come to terms with it in any other way. Also, as shown his music player was dead, and this was the first time he had to face reality directly without his key to escapism. It was a good thing, but the shock of reality was still much too big to comprehend. Here, he regressed back into these habits, and when all these different conflicts accumulates, that is what made him mentally shut down in the face of everything. Also this was in no means a way to be critical of your analysis. I feel like you pointed out much that I missed on my watch through, and my interpretation is a result of my own life experiences. I don't believe either of us are wrong in any way as interpretation is subjective, and I love hearing different perspectives to widen my own. Hope this cleared up some of the reasoning behind it, even if it might not feel impactful still (which is okay). It was three months ago now that I first watched this show and movie, and it had such an impact on me that I haven't watched anything since. It sent me on a long journey of self-discovery and reconnecting with many repressed parts of my life, so it holds such a dear part of my heart. I'm really glad this show was also beautiful to you, and I enjoyed watching all the episodes. I'm thinking about watching Monster on my own next and then going through your reactions after to see your interpretations . Thank you!

2025-06-11 21:25:21 +0000 UTCWell look! Obviously (respectfully) this is a very bad analysis of the film. They can’t all be winners! But it is a good example of the dangers of confirmation bias! Ultimately, the ending, thematically and in character development, is exactly the same as the TV show’s ending. Just presented more viscerally.

2025-06-11 21:05:19 +0000 UTCOh, I have to say, what Asuka did with her Eva was even more impressive than Shinji's berserk. She got a total control of the Eva, instead of having a totally crazy mode uncontrolled by Shinji, she was able to do everything already. But at the point she was able to do it, 02 was practically destroyed. So sadly she wasn't able to actually fight. Just in case, Eva are cloned from Adam but they are just a physical body without an actual brain, they do have a soul which it's usually the soul of the pilots mother. 00 is a special case cuz Rei is Lilith souls in Yui's clone body. Asuka's mother was a normal, but after the experiments she practically was consumed by the Eva like Yui was, but not at the same level. Eva pilots act like the brain, mothers are the soul, eva is the body. I don't remember the exact details about this, but after the second impact, every person born after that it's suppose to be born without a soul. That's why only kids born during the second impact can be pilots (oldest pilots possible). Others pilots are a bit weird cuz we don't know how they got the mother's soul, but the school is full of possible Eva pilots. Also, when a pilot synchronizes with the Eva isn't just mentally, it's also physically. That's why Yui, asuka's mom and even Shinji had problems fusing with the Eva. If there isn't a soul in the Eva, u can easily fuse with it.
