Support FranLab!
Added 2025-01-25 22:11:22 +0000 UTCThis is a special note to all of you who follow me here on Patreon but who are not already FranLab Patrons...
2025 is already starting out as a very challenging year for many of us, no matter where you are. I understand that these are tough times, and we all have to make tough choices and be selective about what we spend our time and money on. FranLab is no different, and I have been doing as much as I can with the limited resources that are available.
Due to changes in the YouTube algorithm and the interests of the viewing public at large, as well as other factors that are far beyond my control, the number of people who view FranLab videos has cooled off in the past year. Along with the drop in viewers has been a steady drop in Patreon support. I am hoping to be able to continue to do FranLab through the end of 2025, and I could certainly use your help to do so. If you have enjoyed my work and like the FranLab channel then please consider becoming a full-fledged Patron. You'll get sneak previews to all my videos and other perks depending on the tier that you choose. I also read all the comments and answer all questions here on Patreon, and I care very much about my Patrons and give them my time and attention. So why not become a Genuine FranLab Patron today? I will thank you!
Fran

This is a dilemma. I enjoy and appreciate your content and I see the situation clearly. Right now I am supporting my three local PBS, Community and indie stations (that I am afraid are looking at deep government cuts over the next four years) as well as you and three other Patreon youtubers. Unfortunately, I am on a fixed income and cannot figure out who gets axed to be able to increase my donation. I wish it didn't have to be this way. I'm truly sorry, Fran.

2025-01-27 03:48:47 +0000 UTCFran, please don't take this as ungrateful - I try to watch all your videos as I have not yet come across one I don't like - the problem is you are so prolific in releasing videos I can't keep up😀 I'm sure others leave unwatched, or partially watched, videos in the 'in box'. I have no idea how the YT algorithm works but wonder if it uses un/partially watched as against fully watched to determine if the output of a provider should be pushed? If that is the case then I am truly sorry and will try to watch as many as possible. Big Clive, and I see Dave EEVblogg , has also noted that the number of views is decreasing. It's sad that YT favours 'entertainment' (if it can be called that) over education. The other sad thing is YT adopting, and forcibly pushing, Shorts - horrible things for thinking people!!

2025-01-26 22:52:37 +0000 UTCAnd I doubt I'll get back to Philly any time soon. I grew up there mostly: Abington, Jenkintown and Germantown (11 years). I left when Frank Rizzo was mayor. Keep well and safe!

2025-01-26 17:19:55 +0000 UTCThe only reason is that I have not kept up with the times. For accounting reasons I had maintained monthly billing for all Patrons since the inception of the account in 2017, but Patreon has now gone to instant billing due to the Apple shakeup, so I will be going in and remodeling my whole billing system.

2025-01-26 14:38:48 +0000 UTCE-Tubing content has been confirmed by the AI Studio Bot suggestions to be 'low interest'. More on that later!

2025-01-26 14:37:37 +0000 UTCIf you become a $20 Patron you can write in whatever amount you like, so you can create your own custom tier. I wanted to keep the number of tiers at a minimum to avoid confusion but since it is a big stretch I admit, I'll consider creating something in between.

2025-01-26 09:41:22 +0000 UTCI and other engineering Youtubers have also seen similar dropoffs in views and patonage.

2025-01-26 07:17:08 +0000 UTCFran, would you consider making a tier between YNIL and Sustainer?

2025-01-26 04:51:55 +0000 UTCI get a bonus in mid-May, I can make an extra contribution then (besides my automatic monthly patronage already scheduled). The best of luck to you Fran! I love the channel content and the amusing way you deliver it!

2025-01-26 04:11:12 +0000 UTCI do support you and I have always felt we're somehow kindred spirits. I wish I could afford more. I hope, if you were come out to Washington State you could visit me by the Pacific Ocean.

2025-01-26 00:50:29 +0000 UTCHi Fran, I'm curious: is there a reason you don't offer yearly tiers? I'd imagine that perhaps the patreon or other processings fees would be lower.
