I remember those water rockets - they were fun! My experience with Estes rockets was, basically, install B motor, launch, recover. Install C motor, the rocket fucks off to parts unknown, never see the rocket again.

Much fun has been detroyed because folk do stupid things as Robert A. Heinlein said: 'Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.'

Yes, I loved the red-and-blue Park Plastics air/water rockets! I had one with 3 stages; a 9" booster, a 5" 2nd stage, and a round "sputnk" on top. You had to half-fill each stage. It flew one time; I never found the sputnik.

We had the water rockets too, about 40 years ago. The neighbours hated it when the rockets landed in their garden, as they often did.

I still have a couple of them. A little one and a bigger one that carried a glider attached.

William Alsing

I had the water rockets, too. The weak part in the design was the little nipple that when into the nozzle... they would break (if you weren't super careful) and then it was useless... sigh.

Short Story: In High School, drafting class, a friend of mine, David Wolf and I were talking about space travel and how a space craft didn't have to be aerodynamic once in Space, a few arguments and he said some profound stuff, I looked at him and said, David you sound like a rocket scientist. A contact from a social media site was David, we talked about what we have done in our lives, I asked where he worked...he hesitated, and said NASA. I started laughing, and he said "You know I never forgot what you said in class" I hope it was an inspiration. And that5 may be all that's needed, a kind word, support, a dream.

My first rocket was a water rocket. They were great because all you needed was its air pump and the garden hose.

Pete Cervasio

I enjoyed this. It brought back similar memories of my rocket days. THX!
