Just for conversation's sake, and boredom from no one around to talk to... Hello folks, Tim here, from Northwestern Alaska... A story about a couple of large ocean-going vessels begins, lol!: I was in a squadron, the VAW-113 Black Eagles as an aviation electrician. When we went on cruises during the time I was there, we were stationed aboard the USS Coral Sea CV-43. I went on the 1979-80 and 1981-82 West Pacific cruises. We went as far as the Persian Gulf, as close to Tehran as we could get, lol. The USS Nimitz was the center of attention though. The ship was brand new. The USS Coral Sea was a diesel-powered vessel. The ship could go as fast as 38 knots, maybe a little faster. Nuclear carriers like the Nimitz could go a lot faster than we could. They could actually create a "rooster tail" when plowing through the ocean.

I support many ship restorations and respect the old girl for her accomplishments, but considering she is now a stripped hulk with very little chance of revival she she be given a honorable release from her service. and pass into history.

Elliott Mule Deer

I have vivid memories of crossing the Atlantic on her twice as a small kid. The band playing Anchors Away on departure, the huge funnels towering overhead, the slipstream when she was at speed. Seeing her as a deteriorating mess in Philadelphia is sad indeed.

Nothing could be fina than to be off Carolina, on a big ol' ocean lina, in the mo- ow -ow-nin, lol
