Ballpoint Pen Shootout!

The common ordinary everyday ballpoint can be exciting too - here are some of my favorites, and a new one I'm going to try out. Enjoy!

Ballpoint Pen Shootout! Ballpoint Pen Shootout!

In the past few years I've settled on the Pilot Precise "fine" and "Extra Fine" pens. They just feel good on the paper. I shall be quite sad if they drop the line or change them. Never cared for most ball point pens as I didn't like the ink. It felt slippery on the paper.

When I was in the US Navy ('75-'81) I relied on the Fisher Space Pen because it would write on ANYTHING, even paper with oil on it. As I recall, the ball was described as "rough", in that it ground off some ink and shoved it into the writing surface. To me, it had very high drag: Great for short notes, giving hand cramps for anything longer. In university ('81-'86), I switched to the Uniball Micro (pre-gel days) and Pentel mechanical pencils. And Casio calculators. I still have so many Casio calculators. These days, I just type everything. I use a pen only for brief reminders. And a pencil only for sketching, when I'm not using a graphics tablet.

I think because of my ancient draughtsman training I've always had a soft spot for the Pilot Hi-Techpoint V series of pens. They look a lot like the uni-ball vision but they aren't ball points, they work more like old style drafting pens. Although they can be a little scratchy in use.

I don't think you'll ever run out of things to write with, Fran. I love these videos. Uniball pens are terrific - such smooth writers and always get a nice solid black line out of them.

Another fine writing instrument video. I'm curious about what felt pen you're currently using. Also, for those who want to mess around. I like to put fountain pen inks into empty cartridges. Just to see what happens. My Pilot G-2 is still working after a refill!

When I was in middle school everyone like to trade G2 parts. So like your pen would write say blue but the grip would be black the clicker would be red the rotating bit inside would green the top bit would be gold and the cap of the cartridge would be say orange.
