Are You Ready For the Botpocalypse?

See you in 2027!

Are You Ready For the Botpocalypse? Are You Ready For the Botpocalypse?

Comments

I am over 70 and have excessively traveled the planet and I am keen on history. You are correct Fran. It is so very very important to pay attention to the past and how it relates to the future and to stay current to local and world events.

Donald J Arndt

It strikes me that one of the things that bot creators are after is similar to what graffiti artists are looking to find. Namely, a canvas that can not easily be ignored.

Bill Lee

And I have a copy of that broadcast which clearly shows that every 10 minutes or so they announce that it is a dramatic reading of H.G. Wells' War Of The Worlds... People had to be daft!

Fran Blanche

Working on that.

Fran Blanche

The concerns surrounding the printing press were not disinformation but information and knowledge itself being dispersed. That shake-up had to do with control of education, literacy, and knowledge, which was limited at that time to the clergy and the aristocracy.

I want you to play more guitar! You can tell I ain’t no bot!

Ethan

5:35 This reminds me of the audiance reaction to the radio show "War of the Worlds". That was of course long before the internet.

What's that old saying about the difference between truth and lies? Paraphrasing: A lie can can travel a couple of miles down the road in the time it takes the truth to put on its shoes. Well now it's more like a lie has been strapped to a hypersonic missile and circled the earth a few times while the truth is putting on its shoes. Maybe if we're lucky, whatever the first major global disaster that is the result of AI propaganda will be serious enough, but not too damaging so that humanity can see how bad it is and enough people will be emboldened to take the necessary action to solve the problem in a collective fashion. However it's more likely that the Botpocalypse will be insidiously slow-moving enough that by the time humanity accepts that a problem even exists, it will be too late to do anything about it.

Mark Hesse

I was just thinking about disinformation earlier today. It is a double-bitted axe. Learn how to manipulate platforms to rank your discourse slightly above the noise floor, and soon enough, the AI-driven data monster takes over, and voila! Anything contrary becomes misinformation, and aggressively quashed.

Drewski Brewski

I think there were similar concerns about books and misinformation after the advent of the printing press. The technology changes but the underlying concerns don't.
