Not seeing anything 😕

Pam Jgmail

Setbacks! Wow. Harsh. Sorry - and sorry this isn't more articulate.

Scott Baxter

My membership payment went through this month. I use Paypal, so maybe that avoided the problem.

Philip Stephens

Sounds reminiscent of when I incorporated years ago...just when you think you're getting ahead...

LarrytheComputerGuy

I pay Patreon through PayPal, would that eliminate the banks issue? Might be worth asking people to pay that way if it side-lines the problem...? 🤔

Zygmunt Dean

Incorporate in a different state? Just a random thought

Tara Daves

FYI doing house repairs (from Icemageddon 2021 plus May 2024 tornado) I've learned if I just fix what's wrong with this aging structure, there's a high probability I'll inadvertently increase my property taxes. Much less upgrades such as electrical, plumbing, and energy efficiency. UGH

Tara Daves

Earn, get taxed. Spend, get taxed again. Lose money, taxed. Increase income, taxed. Get a ride, taxed. Buy car, taxed. Fuel, taxed. Rent, taxed. Purchase necessary items, taxed. Hire services, taxed. Do-it-yourself, taxed. Inventory, taxed. Shipping, taxed. Healthy, taxed. Sick, taxed more. Staying out of the current political muck, people such as myself got disgusted with this situation back in the Bush II years, initiating the "taxed enough already" movement. It seems to be a hopeless situation, it's heart-breaking and enraging, and for whatever it's worth, I feel ya 100%

Tara Daves

Good to know you're on the mend at least, but that financial situation you're in is horrendous. It seems the only way to be in business is to go big or stay out of the game. Well, I'm guessing that the patrons will help out as well as we've done in the past--it's definitely worth it.

Mark Hesse

I remember that whole switch of how Patreon was processing card payments. I did call my bank when I noticed skipped payment to a couple of people I support through Patreon and pointed out that they could use my history of uncontested payments to see that I authorized the payments. I don't know if that's why they got mine straightened out.

Michael F Barushok

Just looked it up, 3.8% wage tax for philly. We do have a 5% state payroll tax for businesses, but that's only for business that pay wages over a few million dollars. And employees never see or hear about it, so for Joe Average worker it's not a tax on them.

EEVblog

You have to pay a CITY tax? What kind of hell is this? We don't even have state taxes let alone a city tax. Is this a Philly thing, or is that common in other cities in other states?

EEVblog

Ahhh. I can definitaly see the complex nature that fact would present.

Cal

(PPPS as a happy past customer, for what it's worth, whatever t-shirt campaign happens is a guaranteed sale from me).

Mike Stubbs

(PPS I have been on TENTERHOOKS about your research project ever since those videos announcing it - can't wait to learn!)

Mike Stubbs

(PS part of the thing I don't understand is... doesn't this hurt Patreon, too? Doesn't you having fewer paying customers mean that they're having an order of magnitude fewer paying customers? I so don't understand 'Bizneth.'

Mike Stubbs

So happy to learn you're feeling better!

Mike Stubbs

Yes it seems like the change fromUS to Ireland is popping up red flags at financial institutions. I wish you all the best of luck in figuring that mess out.

Uncle Phil

That's what I thought when I was self-employed. Wasn't true for me.

BobC

Yea, the site says that, but the reality is different.

Fran Blanche

Very little I can do being a YouTuber with a lot of overhead who is crowd funded.

Fran Blanche

I'm not an individual, I am a business. It is a complex return, and the tax codes change every year.

Fran Blanche

City tax was more than the Commonwealth tax.... but there wasn't a problem until last year when my gross returns went over a specific threshold.

Fran Blanche

I concur. For whatever its worth.

Cal

My goodness... Glad you're feeling well again. I wish I could contribute some advice about the tax issues. I am quite ignorant on the subject. I wish you the best!

Cal

30% Patreon fraud detection, that's insane. I'll have to check mine, but I know it's just been in steady decline for a few years now, no huge sudden drop. Maybe have an alternative method like Locals?

EEVblog

Glad you are better. I just had an infection that knocked me out for a few weeks. Didn't get much done at all, it's kills the enthusiasm. And ah, taxes and tax brackets. But more state tax than federal tax, WTF? And two thirds? WTF is going on there? I thought we had it bad with our top tax bracket of 48%.

EEVblog

In the words of Neil Diamond and sung by the Monkees - I'm a believer! I couldn't leave her if I tried. That probably hasn't helped, but it is true.

David Peaker

Glad you are feeling better . . . I haven't been close to the channel recently and didn't know you were ill. Glad you're working with an accountant on the taxes. I'm not an accountant nor tax expert and don't know how your business is structured but the discussion of tax brackets sounded odd to me. For individual taxes, at least, only the income that falls within the higher bracket is taxed at the higher rate. Income in lower brackets is taxed at the corresponding lower rates, and moving into a higher bracket does not “undo” the benefits of lower rates applied to income in those brackets. That there would be a major change to your financial situation from a marginal increase in income that crosses a bracket threshold does not make sense to me.

Steve

I will double check my Patrion but believe mine is going through. Hang tough, I'm not the only one who wants a mug. 😀

John Crane

My heart goes out to you, Fran. ❤️ That tax situation is brutal beyond belief and so, so unfair. I'm really sorry you've got all of this to contend with, on top of being unwell lately. It's too much for one person and makes me sad because you're such an incredible, hardworking, honest individual, and we all love you. The fact that Patreon is still declining so many of your patrons' pledges is maddening. I sincerely hope the funding requirements will be met in one way or another so that you can be healthy, safe and secure. If I were able, I'd contribute a lot more. x

Motten

And yet, billionaires in this country pay little to no taxes. Go figure.

Donovan Young

sorry to here of tax pains, glad to support you xx

Richard Vickers

Get a fantastic tax accountant! Mine costs me under $500/year and saves me thousands every year, not only on the taxes themselves, but also on straightforward money strategies to minimize tax liabilities in the first place.

BobC

Yes, Ireland. My billing indicates this. The Patreon website says: An issue with a payment partner is causing a slightly higher-than-normal number of your patron payments to be declined by their banks. We've traced the increased declines back to payments system upgrades required by one of our processing partners. Patrons might see some payments declined while changes take effect. If a patron reaches out to you about a decline, you can advise them to follow these steps: Contact their card issuer to confirm the charge is valid and retry that card If the retry does not work, try a different payment method. Patrons can edit their payment

Uncle Phil

That’s crazy. I’m in San Francisco. I’ll go bang on a few doors if you want. 😂

DRogers

Glad you're on the mend Fran, but, boy, what a complex situation, compounded by Patreon. Presumably it lowers their charges, but it's going to backfire if creators lose income. No suggestions I'm afraid, but I sincerely hope you can weather this.

Bob Pockney

Sorry it’s so complicated. Glad you’re feeling better at least.

C Genco
