Driving An IEE Projection Display From 1962

Cool project, sorry i missed the stream but was off visiting the Moms (my mom and her wife so yes plural) for mothers day. This video has triggered Google to recommend me re watch all your display projects over the years, included your teardown of the 1960's sharp calculator that I aparently missed!

I know about those hot cutters but I would not ever use them myself. The third way that I saw in a production shop are tweezer-like teflon cutters that are super gentle on the wire.

Fran, you're right about the Teflon insulation being very hard to strip with tools made for PVC or other insulations. Working in aerospace and defense meant using Teflon, or the numerous different flavors of Teflon, were essential. The tool you demonstrated is something I used for years in the labs. But there was another way to strip Teflon and that was through thermal wire strippers. By positioning an insulated wire between two red hot metal strips, with a notch in the middle, would melt the Teflon and then I would just pull the wire out and the wire is perfectly stripped. The reason behind this approach was that thermal wire strippers never cut ANY of the strands since heat did the job and nothing had to mechanically be stripped which could result in unwanted strand(s) being accidentally cut when stripped. I'll have to send you one so you can see if it's easier to use than the pliers.

Those are nice looking numerals!

I thought the live stream this came from was excellent, one of the best you have done.

Love those IEE One Plane Readouts! I have many myself!

Interesting that the leg of the "7" digit does not have a horizontal edge on the bottom like the 9, 4, and 1... A fashion choice?
