This Is My Friend (1972?)

Another 16mm film from my collection that is a bit mysterious.  I don't  know when it was shot, or where, but many clues put it in the late 60's  to early 70's, and the locations and storefronts have a curious mixture  of signage.   As usual I transferred this reel with my own Telecine and  with a gorgeous low fade print no correction was needed.  Enjoy!

The good old days when we used to be able to roam our neighborhoods without fear of being snatched by some monstrous creep. I remember when there was a special news break on TV one evening that scared all the innocence out of me. Some lovely young girl had been snatched and my world was never the same, then a little while later it was three taken from the beach in broad daylight. That was when trust of adults disappeared and suddenly we were warned and had the fear instilled in us... stranger danger. Sadly it was only the beginning. Now I look back and can't help feeling my parents were neglectful, but it was the attitudes that existed in those times and afforded us kids great freedoms to roam and explore as long as we were home for dinner. I'm glad to have been raised in a time of no smart phones or internet. We amused ourselves and hung around parks every day with other kids, rather than being glueed to a smart phone playing inane games like a zombie. We were the Golden Generation with technology moving at the speed of science (LOL Fauci!) and witnessing major shifts in technology as the years rolled on. I got to watch the moon landing on TV when I was 4 years old. I really have been blessed to have lived in interesting times. Just wish I hadn't been born in the wrong body. Kinda put a damp on things from a very early age. Going to bed at night as a child hoping when I woke it would all be over, as if some how that was possible. Eventually the reality set in. I remember wondering if I was a part of some experiment... maybe I was if we are to factor in the Simulation Hypothesis.

Looks like downtown Los Angeles— Note the Bradbury building (at the corner of Broadway and 3rd) seen at 2:23. According to street view, it even still has the same sign!

Fun film of growing up. Looks like this was filmed in a Hispanic part of New York? in/around November of 1967 based on the movie poster at 1:33 in the film - here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0282830/ I missed seeing the famous Bradbury Building (in SO MANY Hollywood movies)! So this was filled in LA about 1967. Thank you Vy-let Cybra :o)

Aww no 🥺 that was really sad. Back to more innocent times. Really cool to see shops and people in the background, going about their daily lives. This one has particularly nice colour quality.
