Simpler Space Suits?

In the future will it be possible to eliminate the big backpacks on  space suits?  I think so, and here are some things that I envision for  the space suits of the future.  Enjoy!

Simpler Space Suits?

amazing how your brain works.

More ramblings please! 👍

I remember an article in Analog from many years ago proposed that we mostly needed a strong fitted bandage to support our skin so that we could have a very flexible suit to do the body part of the suit -- rather than a stiff suit with flexible joints. Then support around the chest to allow / support breathing. The article claimed that testing of one arm / leg had allowed direct exposure to vacuum without the limb blowing up (swelling) I have no detail more than this.

I wonder how they test the suits here on Earth. They must have a large chamber, or room that can be evacuated of air and intense radiation simulating the sun could be activated. Raytheon makes space suits, but even though I'm part of the same conglomerate of massive companies, I still can't access another division's computer network. I've tried to check out the ejection seat division and the space suit division, but the best the network will allow is links to stupid "fluff media pieces" that anyone can access from the outside.

Thanks for the cool footage of the suit assembly. I had not seen this before.

I always had a little underlying nervousness watching the Apollo astronauts on the moon, just knowing how flexible their suits had to be to enable them to do their work, while still having to be strong enough to protect them from the vacuum. Particularly when they'd fall on live TV, I'd cringe -- as did millions.

Always learn something new from you, Fran.

Neat, but the heating/cooling issue remains ?
