How Authentic Is A New "Antique" Light Bulb?

so cool to see the different color temps from the element. super sweet. also, why so many windings on the newer one? can you share the resistance or/and inductance properties of both bulbs?

Fran, I think you greatly underestimate the increase in life of lowering the supply voltage! Running at 1/2 voltage I have seen miniature bulbs in electronic "pilot lights" that have run for 50 years or more.

I HAD an Edison Mazda bulb that didn't survive a move. It took some doing to break it but the movers managed.

Wow! I wonder how that got through all the hoops to become a "retro" product? The burn-out time prediction is pretty grim. I guess with THAT much filament a failure is more likely? God, I remember when I was a teenager the city was tearing down its old city garage and a friend of mine and I searched through the half-demolished building and found a bunch of old traffic signals we "appropriated" before the wrecking ball got them. We found some cartons of traffic signal lights made by a company named "Dura-Test". I gotta say, those bulbs lasted years! I guess they had to since they were used in traffic signals that ran all day, every day, indefinitely. So they knew how to make really long-lasting incandescent bulbs, but you had to pay through the nose to get them. One of the very FEW items my mother actually welcomed from my garbage-picking years. The lights just never seemed to burn out.

Here in the UK/Europe, the sale of all incandescent bulbs is effectively banned. Although where I work we've just taken delivery of a new SLS 3D printer which uses halogen bulbs as heating elements, maybe they're more efficient as heaters than lights, so that's ok?!
