If there was a spring attached with movement limiters, would it open and close?

2023-04-10 21:57:44 +0000 UTCI've never seen a rotary output like this, but have seen (and used) AC solenoids many times. The inline versions were quite common on older automatic washing machines, used to shift between agitate, spin, pump, etc. The shading coil is to maintain pull between cycles of the line; without it they have a tendency to hum very loudly!
