2023-02-23 19:51:22 +0000 UTCThis reminds me of the first Terminator movie. Remember when the janitor knocked on the Terminator's door and said "Hey buddy, you got a dead cat in there or what?" Then, in the Terminator's brain, that list of responses appear and it chooses "Fuck you asshole". That was a phrase he was told when he first appeared and confronted the punk rock guys for their clothes. It chose the one he heard in his first exposure to humans. I guess it was the first real "chatbot" with an actual physical bot around it that could destroy anything in its way? I never understood the period of time that was skipped after Dave in 2001 entered the ship by explosive decompression and then in the next scene suddenly has his helmet on. In the time it would have taken to retrieve the helmet, HAL could have depressurized the whole ship. He could have easily locked doors or caused malfunctions to protect himself. How Dave had free reign of the ship once he had his helmet on always confused me. I must have missed something. Been many years since I've seen 2001. HAL seemed to the be the ultimate "chatbot".
