The Decision To Drop The Bomb (1964)

An interesting reel from my collection that reflects a moment in time,  in 1964 looking back at the decisions made in the mid 1940's to use the  atomic bomb to end WWII in the Pacific.  This reel is part one of a  two-parter, of which the second reel is lost.  The film was released by  the US Atomic Energy Commission and as always I transferred the film  using my own Telecine.

The Decision To Drop The Bomb (1964)

Comments

The film mentioned the uranium enrichment facility cost $1B, which in todays money is staggering. I’d like to know more about how this highly classified weapon was eventually made by other countries. Are there any good sources regarding espionage or defecting agents?

Sparing my Uncle's life as he was in the 37th infantry and was scheduled to be part of the mainland Japanese invasion, they all knew casualties would be extraordinarily high. His view of the bomb is that it gave him back his life; as such, I had him in my life for 65 years. I will always be grateful for that time and do not begrudge Truman a bit for dropping the bombs, not even a little bit.
