Early Kid's TV Show On WCAU Philadelphia (1950)

This 16mm kinescope is an early episode of Junior Hi-Jinx, a children's  television show that aired on WCAU in Philadelphia and starred Willie  The Worm.  Willie was very popular with kids from the start, and soon  the show title would be dropped and it became the Willie The Worm show.   This 16mm Kinescope reel was shot directly off of a synchronized CRT  monitor and stands as a very interesting look into the early days of  live television in Philadelphia.   Enjoy!

I loved that. It was surprisingly well written and produced for so early in the TV era. Do you have any more film from WCAU? I was friends with one of their stars of that era, John Zacherle, known as Roland in Philadelphia.

Thank you, Fran! That was my introduction to "Willie The Worm". Willie was a little before my time (literally) as we moved to the Phila. area in 1960 when I was about seven years of age. That puts me more in the range of "Pete's Gang", "Chief Halftown", Bertie The Bunyip" and "Sally Starr". Great transfer from 16mm. Nice work. Rock on.
