This interesting little 16mm film is from the Lacy Institute and showcases a lecture on how to develop a winning personality for better sales, but honestly it translates into a talk about what makes people likable and persuasive. Some entertaining asides have actors depicting the scenes being described. They put some money into this little production back in 1973, so enjoy!

Therapy helps primarily within, to relieve the depression. But while depressed, key aspects of personality are also affected, and don't automatically return on their own. Many must learn how to socialize, how to feel empathy and express sympathy, how to focus on others. It's not just those recovering from mental health issues who can benefit from this kind of awareness and knowledge. Many otherwise mentally healthy people have been raised in environments that limit personality development, such as poverty, domestic violence, and more. Despite the focus on sales, the traits and characteristics described are universally applicable, though often under different names, such as the "Golden Rule", or "Active Listening", or "negotiation skills", and so on. Think about a doctor's "bedside manner". Or a leader's ability to build a team. Or a coach's ability to encourage an athlete. Or a teacher's ability to foster student engagement. Or a parent's ability to raise a child. A full set of effective personality traits lets each of us interact with less friction and achieve better outcomes, helping us map our inner selves to the world we inhabit.
