Astronaut Parachute Training and the OAO (1968)

Some audio had to be deleted to comply with YouTube copyright rules.  In this installment of NASA's Aeronautics and Space Report No. 47 we get an inside look at the special training Astronauts got in surviving parachute jumps, and it really looks like a lot of fun!  Also we see the world's first space based telescope, the Orbiting Astronomical  Observatory also known as Stargazer being readied for launch just ahead of Apollo 8 in 1968.

Even if they read the copy wrong, I still enjoyed the video. I’ve been enjoying all these cool videos you’ve been posting lately. Nice work indeed! I hope your recovery is moving along quickly. 👍🖖

What a pain that you had to mute the music whenever it was not covered by narration. The idea that anyone should be able to claim copyright over background music used in a 40+ year old NASA short is preposterous. Claimants should be forced to prove ownership and eat the costs of doing so.

Oops! The narrator says “there are billions of stars in our solar system”… I think he’s off by 999,999,999 and possibly one more. 🤔
