I will use multiple mics for redundancy, but I think the "Apollo Sound" is my favorite.

Fran, I'd be happy to send you an unused Telex Airman 750 headset currently used by commercial airline pilots. They are light-weight and have very nice microphones. As a veteran of many flight tests, be sure you know the restrictions they may place on you regarding wearable equipment. If something has the risk of coming off during zero-G and can float into the eyes of another passenger, they may not let you use it. Make sure you can prove that whatever you bring on the flight is securely attached to you. Same with your film crew. If you all bounce off the walls, even small things can become projectiles. I'm not sure how your film crew responded to "Must be proficient in videography in a zero G environment". I just wanted to caution you on some constraints you might face but you can deal with before your trip. I would hope the people providing the experience makes it clear as to what you should or should not take with you aboard the aircraft. The Air Force is very picky and having to go through altitude chamber testing was mandatory, which was fun. Ejection seat familiarization. NOT so fun! Enjoy your experience and let me know if you want those modern headsets with tiny boom microphones. Headset microphone technology has really come VERY FAR since the era of your classic headset. Also, I could have provided you with a strain relief for that mating aerospace connector you cut off. Check with me if you run into an aerospace connector mating problem. I'd be glad to help. Matt

That does sound incredibly "Apollo life-like"! But I'd use a top quality existing headset. Use whatever one Louis Rossman uses, his one sounds fantastic. I'd actually were two just to make sure, a headset and an omni backup lapel mic, record two separate channels on the Zoom.

Why wouldn't a lapel mic work in the plane? It's noisy, but you you'd still have plenty of signal to noise.
