Atari Television Ad, 1981

More nostalgia for your weekend - again from my archives - from the glorious summer of 1981 - the classic ad for the Atari 2600 console.  The whole family loves it!  Even the dog!   Enjoy...

Atari Television Ad, 1981

You know there's plenty of non violent and simple games made today right? I mean there's even a popular Pac Man game that just came out. Tetris gets remade yearly and sells a ton.

Where can I buy such a fantastically advanced piece of technology? It's science fiction I tell you!

I had friends that had those Atari systems. I remember Space Invaders as a galaxy of fuzzy, blurry video images on some black and white tube-filled TV. But back then, it was simple and fun! I don't think you can even buy a new monochrome TV any longer even if you wanted one. We didn't need gory high-resolution color depictions of zombies, soldiers or whatever, being disemboweled in a realistic 3D settings. There was nothing personal about Pac Man, Space Invaders, or Tetris. You didn't think of the images as human or intelligent. Good eye-hand coordination was the challenge. There were no school shootings blamed on playing Asteroids. Now everything is so graphically violent and the images are depitions of people. I just don't remember longing to see that kind of stuff back in 1982. Ignorance is bliss, I guess...
