The Future Of Viewer Mail

I watched your fountain pen video Fran, purchased a bunch of fountain pens to write you a letter and now you announce this change in the post box. 😢 life is so ironic! Hope you had a great new year under the current circumstances💛💛

There’s only one Fran! Everything you said make total sense and all this Covid stuff makes post offices as a bad as a visit to the DMV for a driver’s license renewal. I must admit I have a “Fran Tote” that I put only the most creative and interesting electro-optical devices from the late 60s to the 70s. Even though I know you would find this stuff extremely interesting, I didn’t think it was appropriate for me to just blindly send parts to your PO box. I totally understand your storage problems. My house looks like an episode of “Hoarders” minus the biohazard stuff. Roaches, mice, rats, ants, mold and stray cats don’t eat electronics or aircraft parts. But I’m going to keep the “Fran Tote” out in the open for the rare instances where I find something truly unique. If the world ever returns to anything resembling normal, I’ll mail you pictures for you to review before sending anything. I know a lot of your patrons truly want to contribute, just like me. But everything is such a mess! It would take me an hour in line for me to SEND you something via the USPS, so both ends have unending Covid lines. Thanks for reminding us of the logistical hassle of moving packages. Let us know when you are receptive to simple letters at whatever address you wind up with. Stay safe!

Wait times for UPS or other independent boxes are long, and the cost is very high. Also, none close by.

That is not how it works in Philly. There are no after hours access in city post offices, the attendants are behind bulletproof glass, and you have to go to the window to get your packages. It is NOT like out in the country.

Is there a UPS Store near you, Fran? You might look into what it would cost to have a "mail box" there. Adrian Black from "Adrian's Digital Basement" uses one for his viewer "Mail Call" packages.

Completely avoid the crowds: There are post offices with 24/7 access to the mailbox lobby. You would need to go in during working hours only for things that won't fit into (or overflow) the mailbox.

In these troubling times, your viewers and patrons will have to be satisfied with e-Mail contact only. When the pandemic is over, solutions can be considered.

Maybe you could abuse Amazon Fulfilment? 😉 set up a location for viewers to send stuff and have Amazon ship it to your door! Then you can send it to eevblog when you are finished with it😁 This is known as the Australian Option! It could be seen as recycling!
