FranLab Feedback For December

Fran, you mentioned your dial phones stopped working when the phone company stopped accepting pulse dialing some years back. It looks as if there are a bunch of pulse-to-DTMF converters out there. This DIY article may be of interest:

Happy New year to you Frand, but also everyone else. Here is to a better year for each and every one than 2020. I’m a day late in giving my best wishes but My first day of 2021 was spent stuck in my couch with my cat and my best friend in my other couch watching series. My body had said stop and I saw unfortunately pain spikes the strength I have not seen in months from the 31 to well I to the 1 day of 2021. One might say internal fireworks. Big hug for everyone who wants it from Norway.

One of these days I just want you to open with something like "Hi, It's Fran.. by my desk.. suspended under a paraglider.. flying through the grand canyon".. but maybe I'm being slightly unrealistic here.. great video and I hope 2021 doesn't suck. Happy New Year

Another very useful "rant" that may just help someone ignorant of the effects of radium , stay safe. Have a Great new year Fran in 2021. Sending you a virtual hug , with warm wishes for a sustained and prosperous new year with lots of new patrons.

You are so correct there. People have become so blasé about covid and the new strain that is infecting people quicker, that we often overlook these simple rules about such mundane, but highly dangerous artefacts and Fran is quite right to point them out. I applaud her for doing so- even if it upsets the minority who don't like to be warned of danger.

That feedback imitation reminded me of that story of a missionary crash-landing on a small Pacific Island, surprised to be greeted by the local chief, who greets him in English: Welpsshcome brrkrr to our pshwwwwwiz island. Priest aks astonished how it comes he speaks such good English. Chie answers: I pwzwwwzz learned krrrrr it pprffffpluppulp from the BBC kriowoetch World psssh Service on pzzzzwif short plllzzzbbbrb wave

I just want to fund the rants!

I didn't notice any ranting Fran! This was just a smart discussion. Wishing you happy holidays, and more in general more people on the internet as wise as you are. ;-)

Fran, I want to thank you profusely for all of your great videos this year. In a year filled with miserable situations, both nation-wide and personal, your investigations really enthrall me since I do the same thing you do in terms of reverse-engineering mainly 60s and 70s tech. That time period was the most important to me because displays, and other devices, had to be developed, reliably manufactured, and of the highest quality. You can "see" how these ingenious devices are reversed-engineered with great care by your own hands. Even today, at 55, I can never get enough of reverse-engineering older creative masterpieces. I work for a major avionics and defense electronics company and I find the "new tech" very boring. Everything evolved from awesome electro-mechanical instruments in the 70s to CRTs in the early 80s, to LCDs in the 90s. The aircraft displays are very cool when they are powered up and displaying. But once power is removed, there's nothing left but a black void. Electronics stopped being fun when everything evolved into surface mount parts that require a microscope to position and solder. Avionics and defense electronics have the most amazing switch and display technology. Some items are pretty obscure and are just as amazing as your readout units. But I digress. Your videos showed me that there ARE people out there who are fanatical at reverse-engineering individual components. I have never run into anyone that was as passionate at what you do as I am with my own vintage parts. Thank you so much for sharing your passion. Your videos really makes me forget all the horrible things in 2020. I'm wishing you a very happy 2021! I'm always looking forward to the next Fran video. Stay safe and keep exploring!

Hi Fran, happy holidays and Happy New year please take your ability to move markets on components as a big positive. Regarding radioactive clock faced

Very common for the machinists on YouTube to show some tool that they acquired and then there follows a run on eBay for that item. My guess is that you do stimulate buying behavior. And, I have to I confess bought a reed 60 cycle meter.

I hope to hear and see more of the bell jar with stuff in it.

Haven't seen a good Frant for a while. Have a Frantastic 2021!

OzRetrocomp

A very good rant, Fran. But I must confess to being distracted by the blinking lights, I hope they are the subject of the next video.

David Peaker

I think your balance of informative warning and "scaremongering" is just about right Fran. I think the ongoing events that have dominated 2020 prove that people don't seem to have a healthy fear of, or are properly informed about the dangers of the current situation. A good balance of information and fear is good.

Dr Andy Hill

Such a gentle, non-Frantic Frant. ;^)

Happy New Year, Fran!!!
