Don't Panic!!! Patreon Is Not Going Away

Lots of noise, opinion, and speculation about the recent California State court ruling about the ongoing lawsuit involving Patreon but in this video I read their official statement and talk a bit about the structures of large companies and the ever present realities of  litigation.  But Don't Panic!!!  Patreon is going to stick around for quite a while, and so am I.  Enjoy!

Don't Panic!!! Patreon Is Not Going Away

A lot of hot air and media hype. Simmer down folks - it is all BS on behalf of stoopid journos!!

Mike Hughes

Thank you

William Nimmo

I was looking forward to a good, soul-searing panic. Haven't had one for a while. Now it's gone. Gee, thanks Fran.

Well, you're welcome - but it's the first video I've put up since I can't remember where almost every single comment is saying I am wrong..... or worse!

Fran Blanche

Thanks for this Fran.

This is merely a ploy from some snowflake who needs some butt hurt salve to get over his problem. The terms of service were clearly violated, and got called on it. He thinks that he can sue. This is at very least a frivolous lawsuit.

Yup, what people need to realize is now there is a market created that Patreon is servicing, if they were to disappear tomorrow that market wont go away and other companies would step in to capture that business. I think of those social media firms that have gone by the wayside, MySpace, Friends Reunited, Bebo, Google+ and so many others. Because they went away social media didn't, new platforms came in and carried on.

Been on BigClives discussion about this and its clear that its a frivolous case at best, the problem is if it causes a loss of confidence in investment in the future. Some people wrongly believe its a case of free speech, if you get banned from a platform such as Patreon it doesn't stop you creating, it means you have to use another avenue to get your message out. You hit the nail on the head when you say these are businesses and you know what the vast majority of people are not extreme in any of the directions so its good business to stop extremist views on your platform, if you get tarred with that brush you will cease to be a mass appeal platform. If you are in a business to make money you don't want to be lurking on the fringes just catering to a few crazies.

Thank you for putting that nonsense to bed Fran. Even if Patreon did disappear we would find another way of funding you!
