YouTube's Summer Adpocalypse!

Here we go again!  Another Frant about YouTube going and tilting over the apple cart.  Yes, you'll be seeing more ads this summer - and forever after that - but not here (I hope) as I am doing my best to stay away from the pressures to bloat all my videos with ads and junk.   Enjoy!

YouTube's Summer Adpocalypse!

Do you work for youtube by any chance? #askingforafriend hahaha!

Mike Hughes

Me too. but no ads with Premium. I only use the browser on a PC/laptop or the YouTube app on an iPhone.

Bill Kerr

I subscribed to YouTube Premium (Red) and "normally" have no ads . But some weeks ago they had a glitch and on Android (Phone) and TV some ads appeared. I know that not everyone is willing to pay that or can afford it. I stay with it (and my family) as long as YouTube serves me the content well and without ads. And I hope you get some revenue of it too.

I watch YouTube both in a well-defended browser and on Android TV, and holy crap, the ads have been really horrible on Android TV lately! So the takeaway here is that it's only going to get worse. Well, that sucks. Maybe I'll just have to start watching exclusively on a browser. Advertising is poison.

I'd second that to get yourself away from being so beholden to YouTube. Dave Jones on EEVBlog raves about it. I watch his channel entirely on LBRY now. He says he makes a little revenue off it as well which is a nice plus.

Get yourself on LBRY Fran. You can sync your channel to YouTube easily. Not as a replacement but as a backup, and for those overly aggressive and unfair copyright claims!

I watch via the Android app on my smart TV device, so no ad-block available (I think). YouTube premium is starting to get more and more attractive - because the ads are REALLY getting annoying...

The ads suck, mid-roll or not, but I'm willing to tolerate them in order to watch excellent content like FranLab. The YouTube infrastructure must be hugely expensive to build and maintain.

Seems to me that they put the creators last, yet without the creators there would be no youtube. As a viewer I find mid-stream ads incredibly annoying and a real put-off. And as a potential creator this sort of hassle really puts me off starting a small channel.

YouTube + Google = Big Brother. Bless you AdBlock.

WTF! Balance my A..

Google are just interested in making more money for themselves aren't they?

Dr Andy Hill

Generally I watch via the YouTube app on a tablet and I don't think it is possible to block ads from this, though I may be wrong. But I am surprised that there is any intelligence, human or otherwise, behind the placement of in video ads. Based on how jarring and interrupting they are I would have guessed their placement was entirely random.
