Video Bonfire

Sorry about the deleted post yesterday everyone, but the advanced preview video that I put up on Thursday was panned my Patrons so had to take it down and burn it.

Until the time comes when I am back to my old self, whenever that could be, I have to forgo trying to make any new videos less I disappoint viewers.   There are expectations of what my content should be, so until I can make that kind of content again it would seem to be in the best interest of my channel that not try to produce anything new.

I do thank all of you for the well wishes and your patience!

Fran, I didn't see a problem with that video. The only thing I expect from my Patreon donation is that it will go to support whatever content you make. That was true when you had to move the Lab and it's true now. Best wishes & stay safe

Hope you are well. We are all here for you!

Mikeybg

what ever you do fran as long as yyour safe and healthly ,thats good enough for me ,post when ya ready .much love rich

Richard Vickers

Fran, excuse the comparison, but you are the maker equivalent of Mr. Rogers. We will tune in to see you tie your shoes and watch a snow globe. Mr. Rogers had PBS for support. You have Patreon. May the joy you bring return to you 10 fold.

While you are certainly capable of great things, I for one would be happy with something simple. A short build, maintenance task, nothing too crazy. Maybe start small and work up to something big. I’d love to see a tour of the inside of your storage scope. Feel better.

I didn't see even a link, but stay well and we'll see you again when things are better. Consider a "b-roll" channel perhaps for videos you think don't make the cut? I'm here regardless.

Anton

Didn't see the video Fran but I really appreciate the personal human touch you put into your videos. Not many creators do that. Am sure many are like me who don't just watch because you do electronics but because we like and identify with your human side. If you need time out then take it and get well. Best wishes

No worries, Fran! Do what feels right for you, these are nutzo times, so pacing ourselves is of the utmost importance. As Ms. Putman says above; we’ll be here! Take care.

Fran, take care of *you* first. We'll still be here when you're recovered and ready to make more videos.

Rebecca Putman

Never saw the video or the comments, but are you sure you gave it enough of a chance? Sometimes you find people with negative views are more likely to speak up first. Sounds like you're losing confidence a bit. Sometimes you're going to get hits and sometimes there are going to be misses. The misses are just a learning experience to feel out what the audience wants to see. It's impossible to know that up front. Keep going until your next winner comes along.

I didn't see the video either, but I find it offensive that you were forced to take it down. I am not arguing with the opinions of some of your patrons, but they are ONLY opinions. You have been doing the best you can under VERY difficult circumstances, even before COVID19. I would ask the critical Patrons would they do as well?? My message to your critical Patrons is "What goes around comes around!"

@ enter: Poincare (The last) A "Real" rest might give you new ideas that wouldn't come in the hurly burly of everyday business.

Damn post by enter ;-( @ Poincare cont.: You did a lot of work after your former landlord quitt on you. Then came corona. I think you overcame a lot. Most people I know would ly face down on the floor after such a tour de force! Besides urgently needing rest, You really really deserve this! So Carpe(ter) Diem;-) Love Thomas

You are a wise woman! Incidentally: Henri Poincare described how he got inspiration for mathematical problems. 1st. He worked intensively on the problem, researched, oranized his ideas, worked through them one after the other in a systematic way, which according to his own words brought him nowhere...Then he put that problem aside and worked on totally different things. The when he had allmost forgotten the problem. He suddenly has an idea. He described how he was existing a bus and had an epitomy for a difficult problem, that had him bothered for weeks.

If you need time, take it, and if people are being dicks, don't take it to heart. Thank you for how hard you work to satisfy your patrons, Fran, but you are important too!

If we're talking about the postal tape video, I saw it and I found it interesting. I'm sorry some people are difficult.

Circuitmike

Please know that people care about you. Take care of your health. We will be here.

Kendra Akin

I didn't see the video either, I'm not here to see the videos first. I usually just see them when they arrive in my YT feed. Please take care Fran! Again!

Ben

Fran - I found your last video informative. There are people who misuse supplies from the Post Office. They make things harder for the rest of us who use those supplies responsibly. I have gotten packages from ebay sellers who wrap the products in card board that is obviously brand new Post Office boxes. I'm sorry a few people have tried to spoil your "calm". Please feel free to post what interests you. Thank you for all your content.

Take care of your self Fran πŸ‘

Sorry I didn't get a chance to see it, but do what you think is best Fran and don't pay too much attention to the trolls

My favorite videos of yours tend to focus on Process: How to get from here to there. Sometimes it's a careful non-destructive teardown/repair. More often it's Making something delicate or precise. Watching you do something while talking about it is both fascinating and informative. The Apollo "Project Egress" hatch latch and the YouTube-ish FranLab logo silk-screen videos come immediately to mind. As if that weren't enough to justify a channel, the "Somethings Extra" are your "walkabout" videos, which are simply charming and delightful. While I love seeing Philly, the best part is seeing it through your eyes, with your insight and comparisons. Then there are the "Frant" videos. While I may not always agree with your topic or target, I'm always eager to hear what you have to say about it. None of the other channels I follow present such diversity. FranLab is a true and unique gem. The current times may be a bit of a lull, a necessary pause for recovery, but I'm here for the long run. Wish I had seen that video you took down. Any way I could still see it?

BobC

Like many of the people above I quite liked the video. But I think the most important thing for you is to get well again, we can wait.

David Peaker

I thought your Frant videos were your most popular ones. I watch whatever you make so I had no problem with the packing tape Frant, even tho I am in Canada.

Dwayne Goertzen

If this is about the postage tape video, I'm sorry you felt you should remove it, because as someone who's not from the US I found it very interesting and informative.

Miroslav Hundak

I did not have the chance to watch the video, but I trust your judgement Fran. No worries, it's always better not to do, than do it knowing it's not right (although it's you who should gauge what the right content is). We can all use some rest every once in a while, some other channels I am patron of take vacation or time out every once in a while : that's the right thing to do.

May I reinforce what everyone else has said be well and thank you for the time you spend with us

Please take care of yourself. As a disabled trans woman it only makes things worse when you force it. (Virtual hugs) πŸ’œ

Jessica McIntosh

We care about you, and never feel let down. We never consider being unsupportive with funding or comments. I get to claim being part of the collective "We" because through reading comments, all these other folks feel the same way. Welcome home Fran, take a rest.

Inventor Pardue

As I others have said, I support you for being you. Admittedly I am here because of things like the nimo tube and bina-view videos, as they interest me most. However I understand that it can't all be content like that, and I still find the other things you do interesting and want to support you doing them. In-depth content is hard to make, even without major upsets like having to move labs, or the general state of the world right now. You're making what you can as circumstances allow, and I think that's incredible all by itself. Worry about making in-depth content when things are settled down and you have an environment conducive to doing so. Do what you can and want to do, but most importantly keep being you! Don't worry about the haters, they're far outnumbered. We got you, and you got this.

Nick95

I never even saw it. Just hang on until you are fully fit. I can wait. Good things are always worth a wait.

Dr Andy Hill

I didn't see the video, and I'm also here to support you regardless. Get well! :)

Colin Jones

Take care of yourself. Nothing else matters.

I would not worry about what people said. Nobody is forced to watch your content, its a choice as is being a patron too and im happy to support you whether or not I like all your content (which mostly I do). Dont put too much pressure on yourself, your channel is about you and its you we support. Concentrate on looking after yourself and being you, not what you think other people want you to be. Take time out to find yourself in a space that makes you happy and content, the videos will follow. All the lovein the world xxx

All the best, Fran. I hope you feel more yourself soon.

Nicholas Wilson

I can only echo Warren and Ian. Look after yourself Fran, I'm a patron because I appreciate what you have already done, so I'm not going anywhere.

S'okay. I liked it.

William Alsing

There was nothing wrong with your video Fran. I enjoyed watching it, as I do with all your videos. However if some narrow-minded people chose to criticise it I can understand how it would make you feel. You can’t please all of the people all of the time, nobody can. Take a good rest and I and thousands of others will look forward to seeing you again real soon. Take care. 😁

I suspect that most of your patrons, like myself, are here to support Fran, the human, not merely to get content. So, please take your time, heal and take care of #1.
