Down Time

I was hoping to get another video up this week but I've been in bed for a couple days with a virus and still getting over it.  It is a peculiar reality we live in today, where no one (except myself) ever stays at home when they are sick and contagious.  All winter here in Philly I've been surrounded by sick people out and doing things like they were normal.  I get in a Lift for a short ride across town and after a minute or so realize that the driver is terribly ill, and still on their mandatory 12 hour shift, infecting anyone who gets their car (likely myself included)  - OR - the mother with a really sick kid who needs to get out and do her shopping but can't leave little Johnny at home so why not just take him with you and stick him in the stroller cart while you do your thing?  You'll get all the groceries you need for the week, and the entire supermarket gets Johnny's flu.  Win-win!  OR - you sit down at the cafe counter for a quick breakfast and half way through your meal a guy sits down next to you on death's door.  Sure, he's sick as a dog - but that doesn't mean he has to have cereal alone in his apartment like an animal!  Get out and live a little.... even if that pneumonia has you wondering if you should go to the emergency room.  That's what it's been like all winter for me.  Oh - and all those cases were all true for me - including dozens more I have not the strength to relate here.  Basically, we're all doomed....and whatever goes around in this town in a season you cannot breathe without getting all of them yourself.   And my immune system is second to none.   Oh well.  I'll get over it.  And in a few weeks the next one will be making the rounds, and all this repeats.  Anyway - I gotta get back in bed.  And a fresh cup of tea....  ☺

Well written. Please get better and just take your time. We will be here not expecting anything other than you being yourself. And you know what? The best laid plans of mice and men often come out of nowhere while lying in bed thinking about nothing in particular...

Get better. We can wait.

Oh, I can top that story. I just returned this morning from my first vacation in years that wasn't a family "oblication", a one-week cruise. People do tend to get sick on cruises, simply because of the mixing of many folks from many places. But the ship accounts for this by offering free room service 24 hours a day. Yet I still saw people hacking away in the buffet lines and in the more formal dining rooms. Fortunately, I stayed healthy. Uh. Aside from needing to recover from one night of overindulgence. Room service was great for that too!

I feel your pain...err, misery. I sell car parts for a living, and I can't tell you how many people come into the store hacking, coughing, or sneezing all over the place. It's a wonder I'm not sick more than I am. Feel better soon Frannie! :)

Feel better, Fran.

I'm always surprised by the number of people I see at the office who are obviously sick (or getting that way) and insist on still coming to work. I mean, I work(ed) in software development at a major company, and we all get x number of paid sick days per year, so there's really no excuse to come and infect all your co-workers. I feel like telling these people "Go home! You're not so important that it's worth getting everybody else sick."

Take it easy. Keep warm , drink plenty of fluids and give your body the time to heal.

For many common virus infections, by the time the person is symptomatic and their immune system is fully engaged, they are no longer very infectious if at all. You most likely got your bug from someone who was in the incubating stage and unaware, and you may well have "shared" your infection with others while you were incubating and unaware. Take care of yourself and get well soon, Fran.

Take care of yourself Fran.

I agree Fran, and as if on cue the Novel Coronavirus (Corvis-19) presents itself, bound to be a particularly successful virus, as it only makes most of it's hosts slightly ill and thus getting spread widely.

Hope you are able to rest. We'll all be here when you get back on your feet.

Get well soon Fran and keep drinking the tea.

mother used to say: If you have a serious flu, it takes a full week if you stay in bed with hot tea and slep 12h a day. Or if you go for the GP then takes "only" 7 days.

Andreas Dorfer

Get well soon, Fran! But do not take compromises on health, even if we'll miss a videos this week.

Andreas Dorfer

Fran, Get well soon.

One thing about many people is that it's all about ME and screw everybody else. No sense of consideration for anybody else. Wearing a mask would just be too uncool. I am glad you are isolating yourself and concentrating on getting better. Take care and get better Fran!

This winter here in Sweden has been pretty good to me. A little sick with some headache. I usually get sick like a dog from the flu. Get well, Fran!

With a cold if you’re showing symptoms it’s too late, you were infectious for 5 - 14 days before that, that’s how they spread so prolifically. Get well soon Fran. :)

Very well. They closed the hospital that was right around the corner - it was bought by a hedge fund and they are turning the building into Condos. No joke!

If it is, I'll get over it. And good news - I couldn't get it again. ☺
