My thing as a kid was Viewmaster, I had quite a collection, including Apollo and other space related ones. Then, in my teens, I gave them all away. I've since replaced them from ebay at a small fortune.

I would have soldered that motor connection with a short jumper because I could never rely on my memory to recall the source of the problem next time the contacts tarnished, plus I hate to do things twice if it can be avoided.
