Vintage 8mm Mini Movie Viewer Repair!

One of my favorite little gizmos is on the fritz - time to do a little repair video and some about the interesting history of these cool film loop toys.  Enjoy!

Wait. Those are loops? That explains SO much...

The lens throw would put the focal length at a couple inches at best.

Ain't that the way it always goes? I regret purging lots of things that I wish i still had.

Fran Blanche

You and me both!

There really was just no room for the solder joints without altering the enclosure 'cause the design intended for that contact to be pushed flat.

Wouldn't putting a small LED (point light source) behind the film turn it into a projector?

That's a really neat little device, I've never seen anything quite like it before. My thing as a kid was Viewmaster, I had quite a collection, including Apollo and other space related ones. Then, in my teens, I gave them all away. I've since replaced them from ebay at a small fortune.

Ahh I remember how to splice audio tape way back when. Sure, little gizmos are helpful but even the best tools cannot help the dexterously challenged people out there.

Janet Snyder-Ellerman here, aka SteelJan. Another great one Fran. Have never seen one of these but cheered you on and loved every second. hugs.

Don't reel-ly remember these. Interesting toys

Very nice to see you again, Fran ! That is a cool little gadget. I am so looking forward to see the big projector. 😃

I had one as a kid! I remember I had snips of Tom and Jerry cartoons and best goals scored in football (soccer) from the 80's!

Neat little devices that I never knew existed. I would have soldered that motor connection with a short jumper because I could never rely on my memory to recall the source of the problem next time the contacts tarnished, plus I hate to do things twice if it can be avoided.

Cool toy!
