Philly's Weird 'Watersports' Fountain and Monster Bees!

The big fountain in Logan Circle of projectile vomiting water animals spewing onto naked nymphs has caused me endless fascination and even makes me want to pee a bit.  What does that mean?  I danno.  But the Monster Bees at the end are a real thing - not bumble bees, but much larger -  honey bees about the size of my thumb.  These are maybe about as big as the smaller variety of the Asian Giant Hornet but clearly a honey bee species.  Not native to PA, I have no idea what genus they are or how they got here.  It puzzles the mind.  Definitely the biggest damn bees I ever saw!

Not quite sure what the fountain was really suppose to be representing it was certainly different and most likely would never be able to be built today. The bees looked like the Carpenter bees we have here in Ohio. they are quite destructive I have replaced many a soffet because of these little devils. Thanks for Sharing...Vic

I watched the video at first thought they were bumble bees but I'm not sure now. Great video showing the place you live too!

Beorns Bees?

Those animals were me in the pool before braces.

All the critters in that pool must've been to the same bad buffet... Ew... Dang, I just read your description "Projectile vomiting"... Glad I'm not the only one to see it that way!

Thanks Fran! I like your outdoor videos. Interesting to see your surroundings. 😀

I was thinking carpenter bee, too.

Sam Brelsfoard

They could be carpenter bees.

Definitely not a honey bee (says the commercial beekeeper). Looks like a fly species that's trying to mimic a bumblebee.

Impressive and a bit scary... :) Thanks for sharing.
