Letters and more....

I love my Olympia.  The perfect little letter writer.   Oh, yea... that is a real live dictionary and thesaurus on the left - and the ever indispensable quick reference spelling dictionary on the right.  No spybots needed!

For years I had an old Diablo daisy-wheel printer that, long after it was retired as a printer, I continued to occasionally use as a typewriter, driven by a tiny BASIC program. The delay was long enough that it was PRECISELY like typing on a card punch console, where you established a rhythm that the current key was pressed when the printer printed the prior key. Maintaining that rhythm was everything! It was a very gratifying activity. Which ended only when my last daisy wheel finally broke.

I have a Preppy fountain pen.

This post and he comments remind me that I learned to type on a manual typewriter in 6th or 7th grade, I believe. The only one we kept is my parents' Smith Corona electric. I bet yours is much more reliable and easier to keep running. Beautiful!

Gorgeous colour/color scheme of that machine. Love the text-to-voice modification ;)

Nice. Where is the UNDO button? ;)

LOL... I was thinking similar having learned to type on a manual typewriter.

Funny. The topic of typewriters is how I originally found out about you - I had an IBM Selectric II that I was trying to get running. You did a terrific video explaining how it worked, how to disassemble portions of it, and a few things to do when servicing it. Still works like a champ.

My fingers ache just looking at it! πŸ˜„ It’s in gorgeous condition, you must take care of it, Fran?

I have a Remington Standard, used to fill out a form last week. It will outlast me.

I had an Olympia Deluxe portable typewriter back in 1959 when I went to R.P.I. It was a great machine, other than the design which lifted the whole roller to make capital letters. LOL It went on to my dad who typed EVERYTHING on it. I'm still laughing... as I keyboard on my Apple Mac Book Air.
