Setting Up The Makergear M3 Dual 3D Printer

Oh... so much agony!  It's not quite a done deal yet as there are still problems to work out, but basically these past two weeks condense into this neat little 30 minute video.  I've edited out the screaming and smashing things, but mostly this is the result.  I'll follow up with a supplemental video about making the vent hood.  Enjoy!

Setting Up The Makergear M3 Dual 3D Printer

Haha.. sorry Fran the moment you put the shroud over I was thinking hmmm that does not seem big enough. Maybe it is my over engineering nature but yeah.. it was a gotcha and could happen to anyone eager to use the printer without checking things first. If you want my opinion i would instead think about just modifying the plastic shroud. It should not be too hard to make it into 2 pieces and extend it the amount you need because the bed only comes out that far att he same level after a print. As @Kadah Coba said. If it is a proper Raspberry Pi it should have ethernet you can just use for your wifi free sanity. I have to agree. A cloud centric future is not what I want but fortunately being a Linux geek means I don't have to rely on companies to host my work I host it all myself. It means I can go from inception through design to fabrication without leaving my machine let along my network. Octopi is fantastic and it is well worth setting up for 3D printing and taking advantage of the webcam view it can provide. Anyway glad you are having such fun and it all makes great content right ? ;) Thanks for sharing Fran. You do make me smile so much.

Wow! You are encountering issues on several levels - and it is all stuff that I and soe others are dealing with. Wired vs wireless, using phones as a primary or sole interface with systems (I am using a desktop machine with an old IBM "clicky" keyboard). My fingers are not agile enough (essential tremor) to do much more than use a phone as a phone - slowly. We can keep fighting for sanity, I wonder what might make a good battle flag?

Thanks Fran. I'm not keen on "The Cloud" too. Good luck with your new printer.

Fran, thanks for this real live presentation of making stuff. I think people can relate to this more than the polished diamonds 🤪 You step out of the hord, by finishing the projects, and I respect that more than you know. Keep doing what your doing, great stuff.

Unless the RPi is a zeroW, should just be able to use ethernet instead and talk directly to it using OctoPrint. I don't use S3D for many reasons and don't know S3D's support status of OctoPrint. I would think it did since most open source slicers have had built-in support for OctroPrint for years, but a quick Google search suggest S3D doesn't as the only thing that comes up are hacks people have done to set it up. Cura and Prusa's fork of Slic3r both support OctoPrint naively and seamlessly. Regarding phone control, Printoid is a good option, pretty much a remote control-panel for Octoprint. Handy for checking/monitoring print jobs remotely, or just a local control panel at the printer itself without having to bring a laptop or such. Cloud apps/SaaS can jump off a bridge. Every company is switching to this even if they are still selling legacy software that runs only on-premise just because this forces users to not have the option to not renew every year when the only thing that actually gets updated every year is the version number and sometimes UI graphics.
