Project Egress: FranLab Mission Accomplished!

Failure is not an option!  Franquility base here - my latch is complete!  Thanks to Scott Kip for all the great advice and helping me realize this project.  Thanks also to Andrew Barth and Jen Schachter at Savage Industries for bringing me on board Project Egress.  I love a good challenge, and this was one for the books.

Project Egress: FranLab Mission Accomplished!

Comments

I will repeat what others have said... it is a work of art. A great result worthy of the "Manufactured by FranLab" label.

Ahh.. Now that is an engineering experience. Having to wing it because the drawings were wrong. And what a thing of excellence it is. For sure I have worked with wood before and even learnt to hand carve things but to build an wooden analogue of a metal latch was on the one hand ambitious and on the other inspired. And it looks sooooooooooooo good. Well done Fran! Thank you so much for letting us follow you on the journey of development and discovery to surprises and success

Thanks for the videos and the happy ending. Your use of old clockmaking techniques save the day and resulted in a more open smile that I recall. Thank you.

THIS IS WHY WE SPONSOR YOU! So happy and glad to see your labors come to such fruition. I'm inspired and enlightened. And once again I feel I'm undersponsoring you. I can fix that.

Well done Fran. The smile on your face says it all. Thanks for sharing with us.

So cool!

I love the fact that you did a steam-punk like construction! I love wood and metal. I'm like you in that I love 3d printing and electronics, and my fountain pens. Renaissance Makers! I would have been so tempted to follow government procurement procedure and why build one when you can build two at twice the price??? If I had made a piece as lovely as yours, I would not easily part with it. Glad to see you back on your game, kicking ass and taking names. Peace sister <3

Colleen Micheleti

Glad to see it successful finished and you pleased with the result! It’s interesting to compare the differences in effort required and quality achieved for the same latch 3D printed, and cast, as well as made from wood (there seem to be a few of these latches in the final assembly made by several people). Yours seems by far the most heirloom part. Congratulations! Ewen

One small step for Fran... One giant leap for Project Egress. Congratulations. Thank you for taking all of us on this trip of rocket science.

I hope that you have been invited to the event at the Smithsonian, and that you show up there. It would be good to see you there for a lot of reasons, not just your tech savvy, and your fine work, but for other reasons that would tee off the Liar-In-Chief and his brown shirts.

Somehow an rocket part in wood sound like something from Victor Pelevin's Omon Ra :)

Beautiful! 😊

Well done Fran, you look so much more relaxed now, even room to smile again :-)

It came out amazingly.

Art Yerkes

It is beautiful.

William Alsing

You have reason to be proud, that is a work of art.

David Peaker

That's beautiful
