Apollo DSKY Display Project Completed! (By Applied Science)

Congratulations to Ben for making it to the Moon - The significant financial and time resources that were slated for the completion of my own DSKY Display Project will be redirected to more productive and original projects this summer.  Thanks everyone!

Apollo DSKY Display Project Completed! (By Applied Science)

I think you need to go on StubHub and find a nice pair of SF Giants Baseball tickets and invite Ben to a game with some beer and hot dogs. Have fun with this mutual interest in DSKY is my advice. Making this a fun win+win is my advice.

Hey, if it weren't for sputnik there never would have been Apollo...

I watched Ben's video, and he has done an amazing job. The write up and stuff he put on Github means that anyone with the skill and tools could replicate it. However I agree with those who say your approach was "truer", and would have been great to see it completed. But in the end you have to choose how to use your resources and if that means putting your DSKY project aside, then so be it. Good luck with your new/old projects, and keep on being fabulous!

Your approach makes sense, Fran. You are a success in our book - you know that. Your philosophy on this makes sense - I also would have liked to see your version because I believe it would have been impressive. Replicating something from the past is questionable in some minds. Creating the second replica, even more questions. Makes sense to use your resources elsewhere.

I came for the DSKY, but stayed for the pencils.

I watched the Applied Science implementation, I was a bit disappointed it was modernised. I would of like to see it the way you were intending to reproduce it.

Hey Fran, I'm a new patreon but a long time viewer, I'm joining to plead for you to continue with the project, because Ben project is amazing but not perfect I would love to see a more accurate replica of the original DSKY, no matter if it takes years to complete. Anyway I love your work and would keep supporting it no mater what you decide.

From the pictures of the Apollo DSKY display had a slightly more grey toned background, and the lit segments were more green compared to the more blue of Ben's, so to me it's not a prefect reproduction of the original. But fair enough if you don't want to continue your project.

"C'est la vie". Pencils are fine... that comment made me chuckle. Love the ELO T-Shirt.

Bummer. However we appreciate all the research and work you've put into It. If you know, I'd love to hear about how they drove that thing with the old-time electronics, sans micro controller on a chip!

I think many people don't realise the months of hard work by Ben that went into doing that. He mentioned it in the video but I think he understated it. I agree, it's pretty much done, albeit not up to original standards, but best move onto other things. Get the files off Ben and make your own one for kicks!

I have to admit I'm disappointed to see this, as I think your approach was much truer to the original. Not to detract from what he did, but I feel his use of modern components is something of a cheat. I'd call what he did a "simulation" while your approach is more of a true reproduction. You have done an amazing job, and your research is valuable!

Just keep doing cool things, and we’ll be here. I’d actually forgotten you even planned to do a DSKY display in amongst all the other cool projects you keep doing. Thanks for leading the way there. I’m sorry you’ve been “beaten to the moon”, but there’s a whole solar system of other projects to explore. I definitely agree it makes sense to focus on the other projects :-) Ewen

Sorry Fran, it was kind of bittersweet seeing that video. But I'm glad it'll free you up to work on other projects that I'm sure will be just as awesome :)

We all love you - DSKY or not. Hold your head high - we are proud of you,.

Sad for you Fran.

A tough call, but totally reasonable and understandable.
