Rare 1973 Heathkit BUILD! Pt.4

In part four of my idanno how many parts series of the nostalgia Heathkit IT-12 build I set out to get the rest of the sub assemblies done and find that I have to come up with some of my own solutions.  All part of the Heathkit experience. I talk about Magic Eye Tubes and some other stuff too.   Enjoy!

I know, it was an "I would" not "you should." For me after using silicone microphone and probe wire, I can't stand fighting other kinds of wire.

Keeping the original look and feel...

I like the small signature in the bottom right corner Fran! :-)

I think I would use a nice silicone wire for that probe, can't stand stiff probe wires.

Fairly sure the line on the 100n film cap indicates the outside foil layer. In some cases the orientation of this can influence hum pickup.

Another nice mod by adding the Magic Eye tube insulator. When using the tracer, if you want the Magic Eye to open in a set location (up, down, left or right) you will need to rotate the tube during the testing setup. Really loving this video series. Thanks for sharing!

The young girl wants soldering... Obviously I found the song...

That probe looks complicated...

Also "that" capacitor is possibly marking the outside foil, not the polarity...... It's just to foil you.

Those magic eye tubes were not controlled in the alignment of the "eye" relative to the base. Not Heathkit's slip, we have to mutter at RCA and other tube/valve manufacturers. They were fabricobling these tubes to welders' tolerances,+/- 1 degree. Sadly welders' degrees go two to the revolution, much as their thous come at 3 to the inch. ;-)

The comments on YouTube could get lascivious on this one... :-) Seems you almost intended it? Anyhow lovely build! Giddy with exitment to see the end result.

A new year begins. So enjoying your posts. You had me at Heathkit. I will continue to support your site. Best wishes.🎉🎉🎉
