Live broadcast test was a fail.  I spent a few days in preparation creating the multimedia for the live broadcast show and configuring the new computer and software..... but sadly, the new "streaming" laptop which I had gotten for the express purpose of live streaming I found in truth can do nothing of the sort.   Just a joke!  That's what I get trying to do this kinda stuff on the cheap (within budget).  It is clear that I need vastly more processing power for live full HD video with separate audio a multi-camera feed, and that will cost some big $$$ so this will be too expensive to do until the resources are available to acquire a new truly fast computer for the lab.  Maybe next year, if we get fully funded for basic monthly expenses by the end of December.  Sorry kids!

Oh hell - y'know what - I'm gonna do it anyway. Four days = gotta try it. Watch for new post today.............

The update on this post is that after all that I went and installed the encoder on my ASUS 8-core editing computer and had pretty much the same issues even with the encoder taking up about 20% cpu. How can they sell this software when they have to know it does not work? Jeeez! And shopping for a new multi-camera streaming encoder - all the video demos are like a Transformers movie - just a flying blitz with no actual real time demonstration of their frame rate, resolution, and audio sync capabilities.

Hope you get something sorted soon Fran, a live broadcast would be great.

Maybe if you exorcise (or exorcize) Windows 10, the laptop will have a chance to swim better without that anchor around its neck. ;-)

Even those of us who are somewhat more prepared and well funded suffer setbacks. Coincidentally I was also setting up my streaming PC last night; spent an hour trying to figure out how to get the software to recognise my capture card, only to realise there was a separate option to add the device as a source, rather than a capture card. Then when I plugged in my USB mixer and microphone, there was no sound at all. After many more hours of troubleshooting, I figured out the XLR jack on the microphone was wired incorrectly, so I re-wired it and it started working fine. Still haven't tested actually streaming, so fingers crossed, but it is a reasonably modern PC. Anyway, once I've got this streaming thing figured out, I'd be happy to lend a hand if required.

Sorry things didn't work out like you hoped. But you learned something by trying so it wasn't a total loss. Maybe next time things will go better. Thanks for trying!

I'm sorry for all your lost time and spent effort. But as you americans always say: "Bigger is Better" So buy yourself a nice rig. :-)

Toon van der Pas

No worries, I hope I didn't offend anyone by jumping in.

Digital audio and video over packets. It will never work.

It’s nothing to beat yourself up about, you can’t plan for or control every variable.

Nicholas Wilson

You sure about that? When you add the cost of a monitor and software? Not to mention space & convenience and that’s on top of mouse, keyboard and speakers if they’re needed/need updating with the computer?

Nicholas Wilson

I'm not going to build another PC for this... And part of the deal is it must be portable to broadcast from all FranLab locations.

Fran Blanche

This was both really.

Fran Blanche

Don't fret. Sometimes not working is much better then sorta working badly......

Desktop pcs give you more bang for your buck. Sorry to hear it didn't work. I would have a look at building your own pc with a ryzen cpu.
