Alternative Subscription for all Patrons!
Added 2017-12-09 17:45:59 +0000 UTCI am very upset about the sudden and unwarranted changes to the Patreon system, and I know that many patrons would prefer to leave Patreon in protest to the fees that they are being charged. But I will gladly pay those fees for you - So, if you would rather contribute directly to FranLab through PayPal monthly subscription and incur no fees yourself, then go to my new Subscription page by following the link above. I appreciate every single patron, and I am very happy to pay the fees for you!

Switching. Thanks Fran!
2017-12-13 20:35:30 +0000 UTCswitched!
2017-12-13 05:37:50 +0000 UTCI'm staying with patreon for now. The fee is a fairly small fraction of the total. I was actually prefunding my pledges by keeping a balance at paypal, so I didn't have the bookkeeping overhead of monthly transactions. So it would be really nice if patreon supported quarterly or yearly pledges.

2017-12-11 18:56:31 +0000 UTCYes, unfortionately. It is a good and bad thing. If you buy something it's a safety, that the money is reserved until you get what you order. But like in the case above he ordered a pallet of batteries using his savings, to then ship to his followers who wanted to join in the group buy. And it takes 6 months before PayPal releases the money. :S But it seems that this is not a problem for the monthly subscription thing. :)
2017-12-10 10:44:17 +0000 UTCMe too. Just jumped o paypal as well. I wouldn't mind Patreon so much if they didn't try to hide the increase as "inevitable" and due to the ( and i quote ) wierd billing arrangement. Hey Patreon muppets you set it up. Go figure who is responsible for its short comings. Apparently, you think it's us contributors that should pay for your short sighted set up proceedure. Screw that . I have enough of my own shortfalls to deal with without accepting yours as well Bye

2017-12-10 09:41:06 +0000 UTCHi Fran, I've swapped over to PayPal. Best wishes.
2017-12-10 08:42:19 +0000 UTCUnless Patreon reconsiders before the next billing, I'm switching over to PayPal. This is a matter of principle.
2017-12-10 06:40:09 +0000 UTCSent you double what my Patreon 2018 would have been. Keep being awesome.

2017-12-10 04:21:40 +0000 UTCThis is actually fairly common thing on PayPal.

2017-12-10 03:40:58 +0000 UTCI'm just swapping my meagre contribution over to your pay-pal link now. I'm happy to come back to Patreon (or any other means of contributing) if they come to their senses. Keep up the good work Fran :)

2017-12-10 02:55:40 +0000 UTCA warning about PayPal: The YouTuber jehugarcia got in trouble when he suddenly got a lot of payments to his PayPal. PayPal locked up his money until he could prove that an bought item was recieved by the buyer. I hope that does not happen with PayPals monthly donation if many ppl suddenly send money. 2017-12-09 23:46:46 +0000 UTCUuups, i read too quickly. I thought they had upped the fee for you Fran, I'll swap over to paypal tomorrow, so that you can get all of the money.
2017-12-09 23:37:28 +0000 UTCInstead of paying the 35 cents per month (times 12 months times each Patreon subscription), it would be nice to have quarterly or yearly subscriptions. Really makes $1 or $2 per month subscriptions hard to justify.
2017-12-09 21:06:44 +0000 UTCMoved pledge over to pay-pal, thank you for setting that up!
2017-12-09 21:00:04 +0000 UTCI have no structure set up to be able to do that at this point.

2017-12-09 20:33:11 +0000 UTCIt seems clear that this is a one-way change for Patreon.

2017-12-09 20:32:13 +0000 UTCWith the Direct Subscription through Paypal I pay all fees, not the patrons, and through Patreon the patrons pay the fees. Unfortunately, creators have been given no option here by Patreon to pay these fees instead of patrons, so I have created the Direct Subscription as an option for this.

2017-12-09 20:31:30 +0000 UTCI wait for Patreon to awaken and detect the smell that is not roses...

2017-12-09 20:15:08 +0000 UTCFran, just to be clear, what gives YOU more money? That's kind of the point of Patreon. If instead of taking the credit card fees out of YOUR cut and letting me pay them, I'm all for that! I do donation software and we often give an option to 'cover credit card fees' that will add a bit to the donation and people are happy to do it.

2017-12-09 18:11:02 +0000 UTCWhat. When did they start charging this high a fee? I'll up my donation to compensate. Edit: Pledge changed to $23. :)
2017-12-09 18:02:34 +0000 UTCThanks, Fran. I subscribed this way because I want to avoid Patreon's pockets from here on out.
2017-12-09 18:01:26 +0000 UTCI will seek out other platforms, but this has all happened so suddenly that I had yet to form any good back up plan.
