The NIMO Tube: Rarest And Most Dangerous Digital Display Of All Time

Hey Fran........l thought that your cascaded PSU design was really clever! So that’s how you get around 1 volt ac for the Nimo tube filament! You were right to put a beefy insulator on the anode cap of the tube to protect the 1750 volt HT supply. That reminds me of my TV engineering days when changing the HT transformer on a customer’s TV set and leaving the anode cap floating loose in the chassis. When the CRT failed to display a picture I pointed out the loose anode cap to a colleague I was working with....and guess what? Got a nasty 20kV shock on the end of my finger that did the pointing! I never forgot the shock. Happy days.

Cool video. Always nice to see off-the-beaten-track technology. Have you ever done a 1950's era desktop calculator? Something like the Monroe Adding Calculator? I always remember clearing those damn things when they got stuck, usually because somebody twiddled a knob (under the display, causing the digit cam to get stuck).
