Public Service Announcement concerning U4iA - Episode 3

If you downloaded or played any previous U4iA - Episode 3 release, your current saves are not usable in the current (v3.1p) or future versions. Your current persistent file (seen dialogue blocks, gallery unlocks etc) is also corrupt, and will be deleted on your first time loading v3.1p.
I am truly sorry about this, but Ren'Py 8.3.2 which the first episode 3 releases was compiled on has a serious bug that corrupts your persistent file which will cause a lot of load game errors. The best course of action was to revert back to an earlier version, and Ren'Py does not have backwards compatibility.
TL;DR - any savegame you have from v3.01, v3.02, v3.03 or v3.04 will not work in this or future releases! If you want to prepare for episode 4, you have to create new savegames in v3.1!!

Again, I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but this was an undocumented bug in Ren'Py, and there's no way I could have foreseen it.
And thanks to the people who has been hard at work alongside me these last days to find what was causing the weird behaviour and error messages.

A save from Chapter 2 should load just fine in 3.1. It's only saves from the 3.0x family that are broken in 3.1.

As I usually play one path, where I just make my personal choice, first till the end and check the branches after I finished playthrough1 after the final, this kind of sucks for me.. There is no way to build a safegame migrator, isn’t it? Or a small gui to select choices quickly to start faster…. But well, it is how it is. I will be able to live with it. Shit happens…

2024-11-13 13:55:25 +0000 UTCJust downloaded 3.1 and I was able to load my end of EP2 save game. haven't actually been able to play anything yet to know if there are any problems hiding. But the save loaded without error.

I can't understand how anyone can play complex game like this with so many choices/freeroams *without* named saves, unless you only do one playthrough and don't care about any other branching. When I boot up the game X months later, I have no idea what I did on which save, no matter what LI picture is in the corner. Named saves help with that tremendously.

2024-11-12 23:38:29 +0000 UTCI have a little dev knowledge but zero ren'pay knowledge. Are you able to access the save game data structure directly? It might be possible to build an export function to rebuild the data in the new format? But that might also be a lot of work!

The fact that it was a major bug that was not reported considering how big Ren'Pay is (how many games run on it) that's sucks from a developer stand point

2024-11-12 22:57:23 +0000 UTCYeah, I thought it was kind of weird that after failing to load my game from Episode 2, the game rembered all of my choices on a brand new playthrough. Had to purge it and restart because I couldn't pass an area that required me to do something I'd already done. Thanks for being on the lookout for bugs, Drifty.
