Course of Temptation Dev Diary #110

Hello friends! It's time for the weekly dev diary. I've been working on getting the February content update ready. Since it'll be in your hands tomorrow with the full changelog so far, and since I still have some things I want to finish up, I will probably not belabor this too much, but I'll give you the rundown on what I've been working on this week.

I've mostly been working on extending the library basement storyline, and I'll get into that in a bit. First, a detour I took earlier in the week: an attempt to make the NPC customizer a bit less of a mess. This isn't really a huge existential change, but I worked on organizing the options into tabs and changing the selections themselves into dropdown lists.

You can tell me whether you think this is an improvement or not, particularly once you can see it for yourself starting tomorrow. One thing I still have to do is a better presentation of the hair options. Dropdowns are okay when there are just a few possible selections, but not so much when there are dozens, so it needs some form of categorization, particularly given that available styles should depend on the hair length. I'll see if I can get this done today, but it's more likely to be next week.

For the moment, though, the new customization is just as functional as the old interface. If we decide we hate it, we can switch back, though I think this one may be a better base to build an improved UI from. We'll see!

As I said, most of my time this week has been spent on the library basement extension. I added a couple of new events to the set that opens up once you've unlocked access to the weekly discussions. This includes one that puts the subs in more of a serving role, as some of you suggested, and different things can come of that.

This set now has a further progression for dom characters: Upon proving you're truly part of the group and can be trusted, the librarian will offer you a key to allow you to access the room anytime. This will allow you to use the room for a unique type of booty call (which is my project for the rest of the day, and I think I can get it done before early access starts — if not, it'll come in an update sometime next week).

You can also show up during the weekly discussions, and once you can let yourself in, they change from a single set event to more of an ongoing social situation, like the parties are. You can talk with the other doms, have random events happen, and also have access to opportunity events that let you interact with the subs in the room with you.

Still pending is a path to give sub PCs similar access to the room. Given the nature of the whole arrangement, I think it makes the most sense for this to be through a dominant partner, or through some special arrangement with the librarian themself, but I'm open to suggestions.

So, it's mostly been a lot of event writing. I've added the special basement furniture, previously only seen in prose scenes, to the database to make it usable in regular encounters, though I still have to do incidentals like proper bondage and having toys available in the room. If this isn't done by tomorrow, I'll get it in by public release next week, and that'll be enough done for the library basement for this month.

Last week I mentioned Hee Ho adding a new holiday — I believe this is mostly finished, but Hee Ho has been overtaken by real life and won't be able to have it ready in time for early access, and maybe not this month at all. But I'm confident it'll come soon. Hee Ho's regular fashion update is finished, though, and already integrated into the project. Rfpnj's new location and date type are also finished and integrated, as are the additions to the Character tab from CGeorge. For those who enjoy the collectible card game, noonycurt has also added a new Character tab that lets you check on your status with it.

I'll leave it there for now! Again, early access starts tomorrow, and I'll post the changelog to date along with it. Until then, thank you for reading, and thank you as always for your generous support!

I agree that the Librarian could take a hand in linking young subs and doms with more experienced members of the community. I think that would make getting closer to the Librarian worth more as well. The better they know your character, the better recommendations as to who to play with one will get.

I want to send best wishes to Hee Ho, and hope that all will be well soon. The new customization format looks very good. I usually don't feel the need to modify every aspect of an NPC, so breaking that up in to different realms will be nice for me. I do hope that you can get hair organized into various length groups. some will work with many lengths (Neatly Combed, Tightly Curled and Framing the face). This game keeps getting better. I am looking forward to the enhanced basement content. Thank you once again to you and all of your collaborators! Thank you to all who support the game! That support helps the team to keep making the game better. Yay us!

how can i access library basement

love that the basement and paths are being expanded!! only sad that the sub path is delayed (grin). But speaking of the sub path, just because a sub doesn't have a dedicated/agreed dom shouldn't mean they couldn't come - that is like saying a single person can't go to the bar to find someone (even if it is just 'someone right now'). Beside, I think the librarian would be 'encouraged' to develop a stable of nice, attractive co-ed subs for the older doms to choose from (again, whether for a relationship or just a fling) - not everyone is going to be in a long-term relationship and it is probably very awkward broaching this particular subject with a potential dating partner... the library club should be a 'target rich environment', as the say. that said, the librarian (whom presumably gets to know the MC a good deal before inviting them) should have an idea of the MC's traits/turn-ons/turn-offs and should probably offer advice on which doms and subs best suit their needs. Getting with someone who really wants giving / receiving pain (as opposed to simple bondage and dominance play for example) would cause problems and lose members. Speaking of which, might want to include some of those type of things in Turn Ons/Offs selection: Bully Sadist Pain (inflicting) Pain (receiving) 'Forced' Exhibitionism (not actual Force, of course, but encourgement / bullying to)

Sadly no, that's part of the much more complicated 0.8 update which is also in the works, but we're getting there.

It's been on my list for a while, might be a good time to take care of it!

As others have suggested, I’d love to see a detailed preference customization feature. It shouldn't just be a simple 'like' or 'dislike'; I want to be able to set specific tastes—such as liking red hair or small breasts, or disliking large hips. Also, I feel the current like/dislike system is a bit too simple. Right now, having a high Charisma stat essentially makes everyone like the PC, which lacks depth. I’d really like to see this system improved to be more realistic. In reality, people often dislike others for no reason at all—their voice, their looks, or just their entire presence. No amount of effort can change the mind of someone who harbors that kind of irrational contempt. Jealousy is a prime example of this. Someone who is exceptionally friendly, attractive, or talented can easily become a target of envy and disdain. Whether it’s because they are beautiful, have a sexy figure, or are gifted and popular, these traits naturally attract jealousy. I want there to be a category of NPCs who simply persist in hating the PC, regardless of high stats, gifts, or even constant compliments. To me, that feels like a more realistic reflection of how human relationships work. I still truly hope to see a 'faction system' added to this game. To clarify, the concept of factions I have in mind isn't about formal organizations like fraternities or sororities. Rather, I'm imagining organic social circles where people with similar natures naturally gravitate toward each other. For example, bullies who target the weak tend to group together, and those with a more promiscuous lifestyle might bond by boasting about their sexual 'scores.' It's about those informal, 'birds of a feather' dynamics. I believe the like/dislike system would truly shine if it reflected these kinds of natural human dynamics.

Any chance of adding preferences, likes/dislikes, etc. to the customizer?

Katieclysm

One thing that kinda ties into the basement thing. Right now it’s too easy IMO to get straight A’s even without low Int/Studying and Sleeping is too effective so there’s not much need to do extra credit unless you know that it helps unlock the Dom/Sub kinks/traits/skills

For hair categorization: I think hair types would be a good way like 1A to 4C

GothamRose

So are we not getting pregnancy added tomorrow? I’ve been waiting for that soooo long lol
