Course of Temptation Dev Diary #96

Hello friends! It's dev diary day once again.

We're currently on version 0.7.2d of early access, so make sure you're up to date! I've done a bunch of fixes and also added in some new stuff as we go.

This will probably be a short one, as we're in that awkward sort of time between early access and public release where you already have a pretty good idea of what I'm up to because it's in your hands. I've been doing two main things this week: implementing quick suggestions and working on encounters some more.

Firstly, when HeartsDmise augmented our list of names, she also provided some dialogue that could accompany NPC introductions and give them a little personality, particularly when they had a weird name. At the time, these extra introductions weren't actually supported, but now they've been implemented, and you'll likely have been seeing them in your early access build.

I also added a option for toggling off the unusual first names and unfortunate last names that you might have been seeing since the names lists were expanded last month. You can find this in worldgen options.

I've been working on various quality of life type changes as well. For example, if you own an umbrella, that now counts as rain protection as long as you have a bag that can carry it, without the umbrella needing to explicitly be a part of your current outfit. I also saw a suggestion to let the PC take a nap before class, so I've implemented that as well. However, you'll need a bit of willpower to manage to doze off despite the noise... either that, or just be really tired! Implementing another suggestion, I've added some oral acts with toys, including when solo, which can be a way to level Oral skill.

I'll continue finishing as many of these smaller tasks as I can on the way to public release. They usually don't take a long time, but they can change how you play the game, or at least make things less fiddly. If you have any quality of life type suggestions of your own, let me know, as there's still time to implement some ahead of public release.

What isn't a quick task are the encounter changes I've been tinkering with this week! Encounters have always proceeded with the idea that the PC is the focus of the scene, which has served our purposes so far, but shouldn't always be the case. For example, perhaps the PC is in a threesome where you and an NPC are focused on another NPC, or perhaps the PC just wants to watch an encounter.

I worked on this once before a while back, thinking it'd be relatively easy... well, it wasn't! And I ended up having to set it aside. But with the changes I've been making this week, this sort of thing should now be possible. I've created a couple events that let you watch two NPCs in an encounter, one that happens in the dorms late at night on weekends and another that can be found upstairs during a Greek party. It's still a bit experimental, so please let me know if you see anything weird happen.

HeeHo was anticipating having to be on hiatus this month, but has in fact been hard at work the last few days polishing outfits, adding some new clothing items, and so on. I've just added their latest work into today's update.

That's all for now! I'll continue working on stuff that will end up in the October update, and I may update the early access build another time or two before public release on Tuesday, especially if any problems crop up. After that, I'll be shifting gears back to the 0.8 roadmap update, and I'll have a progress report about that next week.

Until then, have a good weekend, and as always, thank you so much for your support, it really does mean a lot.

Comments

I haven't changed anything about them lately... I'd say they should work the same as before, but it's always possible something seemingly unrelated accidentally impacted them. I'd probably have to look at a save to be sure.

Question - is it a me thing or does the library basement storyline no longer progress, even after you've accepted the invite?

You may have to update your early access build — there was a bug in the earlier builds that prevented accessing extra credit tasks but it should be fixed now (except for a bug where you can't do the observatory task on the weekend, which will be fixed in the next build)

Are the tasks now done in a different manner? I cannot seem to find the way to interact to complete tasks for professors in the manner it used to take place. I can be given tasks in various places, but none seem to show up as they normally would.
