Because not everyones OC's that I put into the game would of grown up in a retale-verse. Its sort of a way to explain how some peoples characters get into the game through competitions and such.
This also provides a place where the player will be able to change their name. Its chalked up to be a much bigger deal than you might think to change your name in game. Atleast lore-wise. As in most games, as soon as you change your name, EVERYONE starts calling you by that new name without prompt and just acts as if you were always known that way. So its treated much more magical in the retale-verse.
