Anyways, the first post after summer break is a SSO based (but altered) saddle. Some of you have requested it, so here you go!

As usual, the file attached is a PSD file (both original file + zipped file), so it's easy for you to make adjustments like coloring and such.

I have also added a layer of leather tooling, it's of course optional to use this layer!

Keep in mind to not remove the logo from the items, and always give credit to @NorthStarPatreon if you're using!

Mystery box - July (point system reveal)

This is July's mystery box technically, but as it is a more special thing, will it gets its own post

Let us introduce something we've been working on for a while now - OUR POINT SYSTEM!


- What is the point system?

Our point system is is a system where you are rewarded for being an active member. Your activity gives you points, points gives you levels and gaining a new level bring you rewards.

To get the rewards, you have to complete challenges. A completed challenge gives you points, which in turn gives you a reward for that level.

- What do I get points from?

Commenting on Patreon (1pt) 
Commenting on instagram (1pt) 
Sharing our instagram posts in story (1pt) 
Sharing links to our Patreon/posts in story (2pts) 
Use (and tag in caption) our item(s) in an instagram post (3pts, 1 extra point per item if you use 2 or more) 
Recruit new members to our patreon(3pts for mystery box, 4pts for silver, 5pts for gold)

- How do I get the points claimed?

Post a screenshot in the respective channel on discord or in Patreons DM as proof. We will create a google sheet with the points to keep track of everything.

- What reward do I get for each new level?

Level 1 - 5pt - Photoshop/procreate brush
Level 2 - 10pt - Helmet 
Level 3 - 15pt - Semi custom saddle pad

No. Collecting points from old posts on both instagram and patreon won’t count. The point system starts from now, which means we won’t count points if you decide to tag us in an old post where you have used our items, or if you decide to share an old instagram post of ours, and so on.

We hope summer so far is treating you well and that you have some time to relax in a hopefully nice weather!

Every summer we take a few weeks off to get a nice rest before starting up again, and this year we have decided to take our vacation in July.
But fear not, there will be one post in July even though we are in vacation mode; the monthly mystery box are still scheduled to be up on Sunday, so make sure you check it out when it drops, because it is something special we have been hinting on for awhile 😉

Brush pack - markings #2

Helloooo friends ☀️

A few weeks ago we released a brush pack containing different types of "unique" markings, such as brindle, roan etc., cause those were the types of markings most of you wanted the most!

We did promise other types of markings would get released as well, and the second most popular vote on the poll was a manual markings brush pack!

As you can see, this pack contains 8 different marking brushes with a handful of different finishes. And keep in mind that you can use the brushes as an eraser as well. Just simply use the same brush as eraser to go over the edges and you'll get the markings exactly the way you want them!

As usual there's one abr file and one zipped file, to avoid any downloading issues.

Next up according to the poll on discord will be different types of appaloosa markings, so stay tuned 🖌️

Tutorial/tips - Sketching

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a good summer so far! 🌞⛱️

Sketches. They are hard, let's be honest. I know I do at least. I personally is really bad at making natural straight lines. My hands just says "nope sis" 💅.
I think the majority does outlining when it comes to sketches in our community. Some might call it tracing, but for me is it not completely the same. Tracing for me is following everything to the exact, while outlining is just to somewhat having the outline/silhouette as the major reference to create the base. But this is a somewhat complicated topic.
In which way, do do not feel bad if you do it. I think the goal for everyone is to be able get away from it, to do everything completely free hand and do not rely on following reference pictures, but it is hard. So here three tutorials/tips on how to with take these baby steps:

Dots

Do you guys remember these art sketches where you follow dots to create a sketch as a child? This is pretty much that!
This way can you also make the dots with more space in between the more comfortable you get. Because with times does your hands almost know what to do by themselves. I do need some dots to have as a guide. As I said before, my hands just can't comprehend doing natural lines, you've seen my messy sketches 🥴

1. First, you make dots along the outline.

2. But also add a few dots to point where the shading of the muscles etc should be. You can make more dots or less with how confident you are, just as with the outline dots. How i did here is the goal for the base as well - just being able to have very few

3. Then you just follow the dots to draw the outlines

4. Important to not place the dots and sketch on the same layer!

5. I'll not show any pictures of my shading process as I already have shown it before, and it is pretty much still the same. So you will just have to witness my messy sketching 💃

6. And voilà!

Shapes and lines

Another way i think many use is having the reference as a base to make shapes as the guiding for the sketch. This (without the reference) is how many does for free handing as well. I know many art books when I was young explained with it at least, I guess it is the same nowdays, but online instead. Never made any sense for me i remember however, I just got angry 😂. So not my favorite way personally, but i can show it anyway:

1. I use tools you can use in photoshop to create sharp straight lines (as I suck at making them free hand). The type of shapes to create is all up to what you find the easier to go after. This is just an idea.

2. Then just follow the shapes to make the base

3. Also make a few lines as a base to go after for important points for the sketching

4. My messy sketching ™

5. Here is to show that it actually turned into something that looks like a front leg

Stick figure

Another way art tutorials was back then, and nowadays as well, show is to make the the first part of the sketch into straight line with dots as key points, like a stick figure.This way is however a bit hard as this is as close as to free drawing you can come to between these three tutorials.

1. Draw straight lines in the middle of whatever you are going after. It is very important to place it in the middle so you easily can estimate the right shape. Place the dots where the lines breaks off in a new direction.

2. Then you make the base sketch.Let it take the time and do not get too frustrated if it doesn't turn out like you want. You can always change it as much as you need and even afterwards too.

3. If you are having a warp tool in your program/app can you use it to tweak it. Place the reference pictures slightly underneath/closer to your sketch if you need to see better. In the beginning you might need to do it more often and that is ok.

4. Fill in the base and use the stick figure as the key points for the rest of the sketch

5. The finished shading! I also cleaned up the outline a lot as it was very messy ✌️

I hope you felt like you could get any help from these tutorials. Remember; baby steps is better than nothing. Take it in your own pace. Art should be fun and liberating, not daunting and making you feel like shit. You need to, take it in sections and steps, like I did for the last two tutorials with the legs.

Bits and bit guard

Today we're giving you two bits and one bit guard!

*The model in this picture is owned by Duska Stormgrove and is drawn by me as a commission!
*The bridle in the promo picture is parts from the DIY bridle which has already been released on patreon

The bits come in a 3/4 view and you're allowed to use it on all our bridles, even if the bridle you're using already have a bridle attached to it, then you can just remove it.

As agreed earlier the PSD file is shared instead of PNG's of the items, so you can color it however you want! I couldn't find a logical placing for our logo so therefore they are without it, but we trust you to credit us regardless ❤️

I have attached both the PSD and a zipped version, to avoid any potential complications!

Brush pack - Indoor and outdoor stable/building textures part 2

Good Day everyone 🎩

Today you will get part two of the indoor and outdoor building textures!

Part two is also 12 different types of indoor and outdoor textures; Rugged metal, wooden facade, concret, bricks, stones and wood.

Many are buildable and looks good with just having two colors, a base and a top. Some looks the best with a dark base and light top, and some the other way round, like with part one. Just try out which way you like them the best!
I added a touch of mixed colors on the base for the preview here to show how you can create a bit more contrast for the finished result.

I made the concret and metal brushes into that different kind of brush. They just works a bit different than the others. The metal brushes from this and part one works great together btw, same with the concret brushes!

You will be able to download it as a zip file as we have heard some have had it hard to make them open on some devices. Hopefully this will work. Just let us know if you have problems with them!

Today you will get even more brushes! Something we will focus more on as it seems many seems to enjoy them.

This brush pack contains indoor and outdoor building textures to help you out with your stable backgrounds.

12 different types of indoor and outdoor textures; Asphalt, concret, metal, bricks, stones and wood.
Many are buildable and looks good with just having two colors, a base and a top. Some looks the best with a dark base and light top, and some the other way round.
I made the concret brush into a different type than the other brushes, you will see when you try them out.

Brush pack - markings

Hello guys!

Today we have the pleasure of giving you a small brush pack, containing 8 different brushes!

You were asked in a poll what kind of marking brushes you would like to be included in the first round of the marking brush pack release, and you voted for a pack containing "special" types of markings, so here you go!

Brindle, sabino, roan and fleabitten!

I really hope you'll like this little pack and stay tuned for more of these!

I will also create a tutorial on how I usually draw markings on horses, so keep your eyes open for that too!

Info - some minor changes

Hello dear patrons, hope you’re having a nice day so far!

Here comes an info post regarding some minor changes we will make/have made to our Patreon.

• We have decided to remove the Bronze tier, as we have seen for a long while now that no one becomes a member there. 100% of the times someone subscribes to the bronze tier, 5 minutes pass and then they upgrade, so we see no reason to have it as an option, especially when we have the mystery box as well as a cheaper tier option. The tier benefits listed there have now been moved into the Silver tier description.

• The mystery box will also get some changes. We will still have it as a tier and we will still do the monthly mystery box post, but from now on it will not be as complex as before. Previously we have posted several items in one or more boxes and with that we spend a lot of time making 4-5-6 and so on different items for the box instead of focusing and spending time making quality posts for the regular weekly posts, so from now on we will make the boxes more simple. Considering the price for the sub on the tier we think this is fair. The boxes will still contain the same things and the quality of the item(s) will not decrease, but it will not be as big as before.

• After a lot of brainstorming and discussions between the two of us, we have decided to remove the commission option from the gold tier, the one with the full artwork. All the other commission options such as tack, horse portrait etc. will still be there, but not the full artwork. The reason for this is because Cath no longer feel comfortable making these kinds of artworks and that creates a huge pressure, and Cath doesn’t feel comfortable dumping the «burden» on Lucia alone either, so that’s why that decision was made.

• Instead of the artwork commission, we will replace it with offering an annual brush pack commission, a brush pack containing 5 custom brushes of your own wish.

• We have noticed that you’re not as excited as you used to get when getting items from us (items as in tack etc.), which we totally understand since after several years of posting hundreds of items it will eventually get a bit old, for us too, especially since they’re not getting used as much as we would like to see, so therefore we have decided to tone down the item making and rather focus on other things, like tutorials, tips and tricks and especially brush packs for example, as we have seen you appreciate those. We would also love to hear about suggestions on what other things you want us to post more of (we love suggestions btw). Do not worry tho, items will still be posted, just not as rapid as before.

• Another option to the tack items could also be to just post greyscales instead of a lot of swatches (and include a psd file). That gives you more creative freedom with the items and saves us a lot of time. Making swatches is very time consuming and it steals time we could have spent focusing on other things.

• A lastly just a friendly reminder; you as patrons are in charge of cashing in both your commissions but also the one-on-one tutorials, for those of you who have these benefits. It's up to you when you want to claim your commissions as long as you do it before the end of the year, but we will not reach out to every patron in private to remind you to claim them. We can now and then send out friendly reminders in the common chats on discord!

If you strongly disagree to one or more of these changes, we are here to listen, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns.

We would also love to hear what you think of these changes in general, so feel free to either comment here on Patreon or on discord what you think!

A part from this, we just want to let you know we are still working on the point system that we have talked about earlier, but it’s a lot of preparations and when the both of us have been sick and have experienced other obstacles irl unfortunately it will take some time. Just letting you guys know that it’s still happening and we haven't forgotten about it, we just don’t know exactly when yet. We will keep you posted!

Horse coat color palette (part 3)

A while since we last shared a coat color palette; so here comes part 3!

This color palettes includes another four colors; Dapple grey, Seal Bay, Liver chestnut and Sooty buckskin.

As always does coat colors comes in big variety of tones, hues and shades, These colors especially is in need of a mix of multiple to create a great depth and contrast, hence why it is such a mix of them! You would most likely be able to find even more if you look around online and on social media.

Mystery box - May

Now this will be a rather special mystery box.... Keep scrolling to find out!

- The Origin of the Northstar Warmblood -

Long before written records, high in the frostbitten reaches of the northern mountains, there existed a rare and elusive breed of horse unlike any other. These rugged ponies—never given a true name—were nature’s own mountaineers: compact, sturdy, and astonishingly agile. With hooves like iron and a spirit unyielding, they moved through treacherous slopes with the ease of mountain goats, scaling cliff faces and traversing icy ridges where no ordinary horse could follow.

What made these creatures even more mysterious was their deep connection to the stars. Legends say they could sense celestial movements, often seen migrating by starlight, moving as if guided by unseen constellations. They thrived in darkness and winter, their thick coats shimmering faintly under moonlight, their pale eyes reflecting the night skies. Locals believed they were born of the stars themselves, guardians of the frozen peaks.

When northern kingdoms grew and military needs expanded, scouts and horsemasters took notice of the ponies’ uncanny endurance and terrain mastery. Determined to forge a mount as mystical as it was practical, they began carefully crossbreeding these northern ponies with the finest warmblood lines of the age—strong, elegant breeds such as the Oldenburg, Hanoverian, Cleveland bay and Holsteiner, bred for war and discipline.

Generations passed. The hybrid foals carried forward the mountain ponies’ resilience and sure-footedness, blended with the size, grace, and trainability of noble warmbloods. Over time, the crossing stabilized into a distinct and powerful new breed—the Northstar Warmblood.

Named for their ancient bond with the stars and their northern roots, these horses carry within them a legacy of magic, survival, and human ingenuity. Their ombré manes still echo the frosted winds of their ancestors’ peaks, their unique markings like constellations written across their hides. And though they now serve in arenas, parades, and competitive disciplines, some say that when the cold night settles in and the stars are brightest, the Northstar still remembers how to climb.

Yes people, NorthStar Patreon now comes with it's own breed, and above you can see the origin story / lore about the breed, and one of the studs!

This month's mystery box is this: everyone who claims a design, will get a unique design from us. All you have to do is reach out to us and we'll discuss the design of your new horse.
You may choose the design yourself, or you can choose to give us creative freedom and let it be a surprise. For now we have 2 mares and 3 stallions that can be chosen as parents (we will show you these once you reach out to claim your design).

PS: everyone who owns a Northstar Warmblood also gets their own Northstar Warmblood brush pack, that includes brushes that works well with the breeds unique markings.

After the design is made, you will get a character sheet like shown above sent to you.

NorthStar Patreon level and award system

A few months ago we revealed a few plans with you guys and one of the plans for 2025 was to create an award system for you patrons.

Here comes a bit of info regarding the system;

• When everything is ready and we start up with this system, you will be able to do different "tasks" to gain points

• These tasks can be everything from commenting on posts on patreon/instagram, to sharing, to using our items and so on. Some tasks gives less points, some gives more

• You will gain these points by posting screenshots as "proof" and then we will note down your points in a google sheet that only we have access to.

• We will create a sub channel on Discord where you can post these screenshots. We want full transparency when it comes to gaining points, so proof/screenshots are only to be posted there, not in private chats etc.

• Once you reach a certain amount of points you will level up, and it's once you reach levels that you'll get rewards

• These rewards can be everything from semi custom tack pieces, to regular pre-made items, to brushes and so on

• The rewards will be the same for everyone, except custom stuff

• Once you have reached a new level you will get notified that you can claim you prize

• There will be in total 10 levels, which means 10 different prizes

• What exactly these prizes are is something we will keep a secret a bit longer, but we'll let you know before we officially start with the program

• Disclaimer: to make the system easier for us, this requires that everyone who wants to be a part of the system needs to be on our Discord server. If you have been on the fence regarding joining, we highly recommend it now! There's not only this benefit you'll get out of joining, but tons of other stuff! In other words, it's not possible to be a part of this without Discord. We do apologize for the inconvenience, but this is simply to make the system manageable for us.
