Library!

This is where a lot of the lore will be stored for previous events from Retale 2, most of the history and belief systems I'm hoping to introduce here.

I wonder if people would prefer to have this as a hub of information they can access immediately, or perhaps if they have to find books to unlock the lore as a little something to do? Here have a little lore from a Bible book in Retale universe where a famous furry Connor Wyatt documents how he understands the Gossamer Annal.

A brief look into The Gossamer Annal - Connor Wyatt 1940

Back in the Gossamer times, the macros that we live beside were originally called  The Prodigious.

During the Gossamer periods, macros were originally worshiped as God's and deities by those smaller than them. People grew scared and feared the macros that towered over them. The Prodigious, sometimes in large groups would lord over the smaller people, some of them aware of their less than holy backgrounds. Others played into the myths that those smaller than them made up about them. Some Prodigious had grown up in the lies and worship, not knowing any other life.

One particular account listed in The Gossamer noted one prodigious  known as Barnabas. (Cathrine 4:29) "We fell upon our hairy knees as Barnabas lifted the sky above where we resided, he was the night and the day, able to create giant shadow demons in complete daylight. Blessed be Barnabus for giving us these ghostly apparitions to protect our village." We now know this was likely shadow puppetry on Barnabas' part while using his body to block out the sun to enforce control and the time of the day for the village that he cared for.

Barnabas was known in particular for demanding daily sacrifice, in which his subjects encouraged the able-bodied and only the strongest to be fed to their God. This kept their population floundering, and often desperate. Though under the protection of The Prodigious they had little need to defend themselves, Barnabas being noted for his superb strength and magical ability often feared by neighbouring villages and tribes.

(Catherine 4:37) "Oh what wonder, Barnabas, our protector, see that he has evolved a holy tendril from his chin, soft in touch and like hair, the kids of our village are climbing to our God and singing songs of his healing presence to us and our village."  (Catherine 4:38) "Woe is me, for I have not known such torment by small urchins climbing upon my facial hair, I grow weak and weary even after I have taken advantage of your people for so long."

We find Barnabas towards the end of the chapter lamenting over his life-choices to take sacrifice, eventually coming to reveal himself to his people that he indeed was not of any divine line. He offered to compensate the people for the years he had wronged them. Many members of the village interpreted this as a test of their faith, others were fierce in rage. Many believing that their relatives and friends had gone to a better place.

Later on, in the verse we see chaos erupt, as both the people still faithful grew to believe that Barnabas was a false God, that perhaps he had been switched with a deceiver. Which played into the hands of those that were fierce at the lie they had worshipped all their lives.

Now, an old, frail Barnabas sat upon his rocky steeple looking down at the subjects, now no longer offering sacrifice or tribute, but holding weapons and tools. (Catherine  7:20) "Women and men, take up your ploughshares  and swords and see to it that this false one be put to death and his fur be a reminder of the Barnabas we once knew."
