One year ago I did a fashion shoot for the brand Zwingenberg, their first collection.
When you shoot for a new brand, they often need different kind of content, besides the campaign shots. Normally I dont do e-commerce (simple online shop photos), but this time as part of the bigger package it was okay for me (extra money as well).
We had 3 different sets for the shooting day -
1. e-com
2. simple classy lookbook
3. campaign shots
My studio is big enough to have 3 sets at the same time.
In this post I am showing you sets 1 and 2.
For e-com the client wanted a very soft subtle look, where u dont really see the light direction on the photo, soft and light, not so crispy like online shop pics usually look like.
We used a white background paper on c-stands and 3 lights.
2 Aputure 600x were directed into the ceiling (numbers 2 and 3 on the first photo) to create soft even light reflected from a big white surface.
Aputure 1200d (number 1 on the photo) was directed to a 3x3 meter white wall to my left to bounce back light onto the model. 600x were running on full power and I adjusted the 1200d till it fit the overall picture expectations.
Our second set was directly on the opposite side of the first one - we used the concrete design floor with a simple white wall for the lookbook shots.
As my main light source I used a Zhiyung 40 watt portable light, connected to a power bank via usb-c to keep it running for long time. The idea was to have a classical paparazzi style lighting with the light very close to the camera. As I use only led lights for now and we also had a videographer to film the looks, this was an easy choice. I normally shoot at ISO 1600 when using this light, which is no problem with modern cameras when it comes to quality of the picture.
Using the light in 1 hand and the camera in the other is physically annoying because the cam is very heavy for 1 hand holding, but you stay flexible and can contraol the direction of the light better, to add or remove the shadow behind the model, which I did especially for closeup photos of the headwear for example.
Besides the 40watt pocket light there was some light coming from the e-commerce set, indirectly bouncing back to set number 2. We tried both varients of lighting - with and without this extra fill light.
