Project Vault Game Dev Log 03

Heck it's end of July already! What the heck happened to the time this month!! Been having too much fun with a bunch of the little dev projects I've been playing with for the month, so I'm pretty stoked to share a lot of them with you all! Spent a good chunk of time working on cleaning up Bod's model a bit in addition to little quality of life updates with the model movement in game! Likewise got to add in another mechanic I've been needing which is the wall hug! Got a bit more of a breakdown on the main adds below along with some snippets of future mechanics and some early level layouts!

For August, the main plan is going to be to wrap up the inventory system so that I can start adding in some tools for Bod to play with! I'd like to see if I can get a few testing zones added into the game so that folks can maybe play around with the game build towards the end of the month or September!

Bod Model: So Bod's model had probably the largest amount of tweaks this last month! I spent a good amount of time just cleaning up the model topology in general, proportions, and adding little details like separating out Bod's toes haha. In addition I finally got my texture software, so I was able to start playing around with the textures on Bod and bring them to a higher level of polish! I'm pretty dang happy with how they look at the moment now thanks to it :3! Then in terms of the actual game, I added in a few little things that really help the model feel more alive! For one I added in some IK systems to Bod's legs/feet so that they actually sit at different heights when Bod is on a slope or stairs. Likewise I've added a bit of natural movement to Bod's tail! You can especially see it when Bod is chilling and idle! I need to tweak this heavily down the road, but for now it's really cool to just see the system in play :3!!

Game Mechanics: So in terms of game mechanics, the big one I got working this month is the wall hug. I'm pretty happy with how it looks in general so far! Although I have some quality of life tweaks I really want to add on to it down the road (Along with a handful of bugs to squash X3!). In addition to this I've also added some stuff to allow some dynamic camera work in the game! There should be a little vid of it attached to the post (I really need to figure out how to imbed these vids on the post....). One of my next mechanics I'm going to be focusing on for August is going to be ledge hanging!

Level Layouts: So one of the big things I want to try and implement by the end of the year is a sort of "trail" dungeon or ruin from the game. I've got more than a handful of notes and initial sketches that I want to create digitally, but for now have some sort of map legends I created to mentally sort out the general level layout of room shapes and events!

lol, for real! Am an EIT at the moment, and for some reason, I never really thought to apply that sort of engineering mindset to game design. Gonna read back through all your dev logs cuz I can tell already I'm really gonna like it~

Yee! I very much like to try and work things out and try and see it as a holistic design! One of the benefits of working as an engineer for most of my life haha X3!!

BodBloat

This looks awesome! I actually love how well documented the whole thought process is.

Beard Face

Yeah! It's kind of crazy seeing how much I've worked out each month with it all! It's starting to make these updates some of my fav things at the end of the month X3!!

BodBloat

The progress you've made is amazing. And each update on this project brings so many exciting things to see!
